Siege | Woodsball Games
Woodsball is the name of paintball that is played in any natural setting. Though the name Woodsball conjures up the image of players shooting at each other from behind trees, the game can be played over any terrain that has been largely unchanged from the way Mother Nature made. Woodsball can even be played in grassy knolls or open fields, as long as players have a reasonable number of things to get behind to keep from getting marked. Usually, Woodsball fields have enough natural objects in the courses to serve as natural bunkers, and man-made bunkers are sometimes added if more are necessary. The most common Woodsball games include Slayer, Elimination, CTF, Assault, and Siege.

Siege is a game that is easy enough for even a newbie to understand. This game may be called a number of different names, but it involves one team that must keep the enemy out of a given area for defending, and another team that must try to break through the line of defense. In the game Siege, players are split up into two evenly numbered teams, one being the attackers and one being the defenders. The defenders take the field first and form a multi-layered line of defense around some area for protecting. The defenders may simply have to keep the defenders from getting past a certain location on the field, or they may be guarding some type of valuable object within some fixed location on the field. The attacking team approaches the defenders from further down the field and must get past the defenders to accomplish the game's objective. The objective once the defense has been breached can be anything from holding an object guarded by the defense to rescuing a hostage and breaking him out of his cell. In all Siege format games, one team can always defeat the other by eliminating the entire roster of the opposing team. Siege is often called Attack and Defend. Attack and Defend games are usually time based games, where the attackers have a certain period of time to accomplish their objective. Siege style games usually last between 20-40 minutes. If the attackers do not accomplish their objective before time runs out, the defending team wins. Other paintball game variants include the Fugitive, Vampire, Hostage Rescue, Trophy Hunter, and Down But Not Out.
Down But Not Out, as opposed to Siege, is a multiple-elimination game that allows marked players to become live players once again. This game features two teams and two flags stations, and all the rules of a classic capture the flag game with one unique twist. Players who are tagged do not have to exit the field but will lay down or sit down the spot they were hit. When a player is hit, he places some type of sock over his marker to let everyone know that he was hit. A player can then be brought back into the game by a live teammate who taps him in. The down but not out player then takes his barrel sock off and is back in business. While down, players and not allowed to influence game events, either by shooting or disclosing the intentions or positions of the other players.
