What Kind of Paintball Player Are You?
What kind of paintball player are you? What philosophy, game tactics, and style of play make up the player that you are. Are you a player well known for your aggressiveness and full on frontal charges down the field? Or are you know as a thinker, and are you know to sit back and wait for your enemy to come to you. Alex Dalton of SPLAT MAGAZINE, www.splatmagazine.com, has developed a brilliant test that he titled The Paintball Psychology Test. In this test, a player's game strategic preferences are separated into 4 categories, resulting in a thorough evaluation of a players Paintball Personality.

A players paintball personality is derived from 4 main categories. The 4 category groups are evaluated based on…
- Position. The position that you favor most when playing on the field.
- Style. This is an overall assessment of a player's preferred style of play
- Rate of Fire. ROF.
- Frequency of Play. FOP. This refers to the time interval from one paintball game to the other.
Sigmund Freud and his student Carl Jung were amount the first scientist to study innate personalities of the human mind. These first psychologists thought that certain personality traits would remain in us throughout our lifetime, largely unchanged. In Alex Dalton's brilliant Paintball Psychology Test, he grouped certain behaviors on the paintball field into 4 categories that together, could tell us what type of paintball player we really are.
Position. Style. Rate of Fire (ROF). Frequency of Play (FOP).
The first category, Position, tells us a lot about the role you choose among your teammates. If you most often find yourself out front, it tells us that you are a bold and daring player, and that you possess strong leadership abilities. If you are most often at the back of the field, you may be observed as a strong backup player. A strong backup player is important for defending the flag and for providing cover to teammates advancing up the field.
The style of a paintball player usually refers to the time it takes him/her to come up with new strategies on the field and then try to execute them. With someone espousing the all go, no quit style, they may rely solely on passion and instinct, and move on that flag as soon as they see that opening. A player with a more rash style is always hitting the ground running, and wants to move quickly into position to draw first blood. A player with a more thinking aspect to their game planning may want to take good cover, and try to think 7 moves ahead the way chess champions do in their matches. Usually a style of player somewhere between very aggressive and the intelligent player is optimal. Remember that while you are game planning, the enemy may be moving on you, and you may be caught on your heels.
One trait that tells a lot about who you are on the paintball field is your Rae of Fire (ROF). Some players find the need to fire thousands of paintballs on the weekend, while others will take that shot only when they feel like they have a high percentage shot. Frequency of Play (FOP) could be a reflection of your dedication to the game of paintball.
