Objective
A paintball objective is some type of task that a player or team must complete in order to win points in the game or win the game. Though other sports teams win games by scoring the most points within a given time period to win games, objectives are often more interesting in paintball games. Usually in other team based sports, a game runs for a specific period of time, and the winning team must try to score the most points in that period of time. But in paintball games, the game is usually over once the objective has been completed. Paintball games usually fall into one of two categories: games of total player elimination and objective based games. Total elimination games are the oldest games, going all the way back to when the sport was first created. But elimination games are not always the most interesting, and objective based games can really spice up the day and bring a new excitement to paintball. The most common objective is the flag hang. In capture the flag games, a team wins the game by capturing the enemies flag, running it back to their home base, and hanging the enemies flag at their own flag station. Or the objective could be to take their flag, bring it across the field, and hang it in the opposing team's flag station. Players usually apply to objective based games as well, and a team can still lose by having all of its players eliminated. All types of paintball games have been played on fields like Be the Hunted Paintball in Cumberland Maryland, and Circle A Paintball in Brenham Texas.

There are a number of paintball game variations that have many unique objectives. In recreational paintball, there are over 50 game variations, including spy, sitting duck, and prize collector. In the games spy, the objective of the game is to eliminate the captain by shooting him. There are two groups of players that can eliminate the captain, the players on the opposing team, and a spy that lurks within the ranks of the team he is on. The game begins with two seven player teams. Before the game begins, each team draws from a seven card deck, numbered 1-7. The player who draws #1 is designated the captain who reveals himself and wears an arm band for all the other players to see. Player who draws a seven is the spy on that team, and he does not reveal himself. Also the other players to not let their numbers be known, so that only the spy knows his identity. The games began with the two teams facing off, trying to eliminate each other, especially trying to eliminate the captain. At some point in the game, the official blows the whistle, and the spy has the go ahead to turn on his captain and try to shoot him. If at any point in the game a captain is eliminated, the opposing team wins.
Some non-elimination games are still based on points and tagging players from the other team. In Prize Collector, the objective is to take an arm band from as many different players as possible by tagging him.
