NXL Paintball League Teams
The NXL Paintball League www.nxlpaintball.com has professional paintball teams that include some of the most talented players in the game. The NXL, in 2006 was comprised of 16 professional teams that competed in Division 1 professional games. The NXL is composed of the Baltimore Trauma, Boston Red Legion, Chicago Aftershock, Detroit Strange, Las Vegas LTZ, Los Angeles Ironmen, Miami Raiders, New York Xtreme, Oakland Assassins, Philadelphia Americans, Portland Naughty Dogs, San Diego Dynasty, Sacramento Excessive aka XSV, San Diego Legacy, X-Factor, and Ultimate. Live games from the NXL were televised for the first time on December 9, 2004 on ESPN2. While the primary ESPN channel features long established sports events such as football, baseball, hockey, and basketball, ESPN2 has televised up and coming sports such as wakeboarding, snowboarding, and paintball. With the support of programming such as ESPN2, the NXL hopes to grow into a league successful enough to employ fulltime players and independent arenas for NXL Games. With the spirited play from players on NXL teams like the Chicago Aftershock and the New York Xtreme, the league is engaging a growing audience some sold out events. Baltimore Trauma. The Baltimore is headed by Lorenz Dickinson and assistant coaches Will Robertson and Matt "MB" Bawden. In the 2005 NXL finals, Baltimore squared off against the Boston Red Legion. The Trauma was fronted by some of the game's most seasoned veterans, including Bobby Sink, Dave "Opie" Thomas, Justin Wall, Dave Fason, Steven Porterfield, and Bryan Stewart. Baltimore defeated Boston in the finals and received the coveted President's Cup. Baltimore overcame Boston in straight sets, 8-7, 8-6. In the third and fourth place playoffs for the President's Cup, the Detroit Strange defeated the Oakland Assassins.
The Boston Red Legion lost a fiercely contested two set battle in the finals to the Baltimore Trauma for the President's Cup. The Boston Red Legion are managed by assistant coaches Sergey Samuilov and Alexander Tarando and head coach Sergey Leontiev. In calendar year 2006, the Red Legion had a number of heroes on their active roster, including Konstantin Federov, Dan Maskell, Dmitry Kulikov, Sam Keats, Vasily Panteleer, Petr Vasiliev, and Aleksey Saloview.

While paintball started partly as an alternative to the popular sports like baseball and football league's such as the NXL have reformatted their games to be much more audience friendly and TV friendly. Paintball has drawn on the strengths from other sports to offer a more up tempo and exciting to watch product.
