Volleyball
Volleyball is a great sport that be played in all seasons, and it is a great event that can be enjoyed in indoors and outdoors. Volleyball is a sport with very little needed to set up a game just a ball, a net and couple of players. In contrast, sports like football, soccer, and field hockey require huge fields and large numbers of players. Volleyball is one of a number of ball sports which include rugby, team handball, and netball. Volleyball is a game of serves, keeping the ball from hitting the ground, and hitting it over the net without the other team blocking the ball. While games like the shot put are ideal for athletes that are strong and powerfully built, successful volleyball players are usually quick, lithe, and possess a great vertical leap. In 1895, William G. Morgan created the precursor to volleyball, a game called Mintonette. While sports like basketball and tennis were very expensive to play, volleyball became a popular sport for the working class. The popularity of this sport grew in the U.S., whose soldiers brought the sport to Europe during World War I. Volleyball had World Championships events for the first time in 1949 in Prague Czechoslovakia, and it became an Olympic event for the first time in the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. The Men's World League became the first professional league for the sport in 1990. The Volleyball Men's World League supports its promoters, team owners, and players through major international sponsorships, and internal TV contracts.

Indoor Volleyball. While Beach Volleyball is a sport enjoyed during the summer months, outside, and on a sandy surface, indoor volleyball games are played on hard rubber or on smooth wooden courts. The game features two teams of 6 players who serve and volley the ball back and forth over the mid line net, trying to make the ball land on the ground on the opposing team's side. The team that wins each serve and volley wins a point if is was serving or, if it was not serving, wins the right to serve. The entire volleyball match takes place over a best of five series of sets. The first team to win five sets wins the match. The first team to score 25 points wins each set. A team must score 25 points and have a 2 point lead to win the set. If the score is tied 24-24, the two teams will continue to play until one of the tow teams is ahead by two points, the team that is ahead by two points at the time wins the set. In the case of a tiebreaking fifth set, the first team to score at least 15 points with a two point lead wins the set.
Playing The Game. The court consists of the playing court where the ball must hit to win the points, the net at the center line, and the free zone outside of the center line, and the free zone outside of the Antenna. The Antenna marks the zone within which the ball is out of bounds. The game has 6 players on the court at a give time with up to 6 additional players that can rotate into the match via coaching substitutions. One point play begins with a player serving the ball to the other team's side of the court from behind the baseline of his own side. If the ball lands out of bounds, the other team takes over serves. If the served ball lands inbounds, they get 1 point, and they get to serve again. Some important volleyball positions include the Libero, who specialized in returning the ball from the backcourt, and the center, who specializes in blocking spike attempts by attackers from the opposing team. Volleyball, like paintball, is a team oriented event that originated in the United States.
