Trampoline | Gymnastics
The trampoline is one of sports most exciting events, as it involves leaps and somersaults as high as 8 meters in a series of breathtaking leaps and tumbles. The trampoline was named after two Italian trapeze artists, the Due Trampoline, who bounced on a springy safety net after their performance. The trampoline was later used as a strength building and exercise tool by US soldiers during World War II. The first world championships for the trampoline were held in 1948, when the event became an official sport. The Trampoline is one of a number of gymnasts events that include artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, and competitive aerobics. The Snowboarding Half-Pipe and Freestyle BMX are other sporting events where the athlete makes one or more flips while in the air before coming down with a smooth landing. The speed of the moves and heights of the vertical jumps make these events very popular with spectators. Competitive national trampoline events are currently organized by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). The trampoline became an Olympic event for the first time in Sydney in 2000.

In all trampoline events, athletes execute aerial routines while maintaining complete control of their rebounds. In these events, athletes perform from 3 to ten tricks on the square trampoline, the springy track, and the double mini-trampoline. In all of these events, the athletes move flawlessly from one trick to the next, culminating in a final double somersault routine at the end of the exercise. Trampoline events can be individual or group competitions. In the synchronized competition, two trampolinists execute the same tricks at the same time. Trampolinists are encouraged to vary their routine, and they are forbidden from executing the same tricks twice in a routine. This event includes three disciplines, trampoline, tumbling, double trampoline.
The events usually take place over two rounds of competition. In the first round the entire group of competitors perform their routines, with the ten best trampolinists going to the finale. 7 judges and 1 referee mark the athletes out of 10 points, according to the level of difficulty and the quality of execution. Skateboarding is another event where players are judged based on the originality of their program, the degree of difficulty, and overall execution of the various stunts. Athletes may compete in all three trampoline events, but usually excel at only one of them.
Due to an increased understanding of body physiology and advances in the spring's technology, trampolinists are flying higher than ever, allowing them to do more complex and spectacular tricks. In both the trampoline and the springy track, the advent of synthetic fibers for the bed and metal alloys for the springs and frames has helped to increase the height of tricks. As a result, trampolinists are bouncing up to 8 meters and tumblers up to 2.5 meters. These new heights give athletes more air time and time to execute more complex and eye popping stunts. Some of these stunts include the layout, pike, tuck, and Back Somersault Layout. In the Back Somersault Layout, the trampolinist performs his entire somersault while keeping his body and legs straight all the way into the landing. Trampoline and paintball events both require the athlete to have sound core body strength.
