Strength Sports
Strength sports include two major disciplines, weightlifting and power lifting. Both of these disciplines require athletes to use their arms and legs to lift heavy weights, often weights heavier than themselves. In weightlifting, an athlete uses his whole body to lift as heavy a weight as possible above the head onto straight arms. The weights used in weightlifting are usually a steel bar with lead weights. The steel bar weighs 20 kg for men and 15 kilograms for women. The weights are loaded onto the sides of the steel bars ant he weights are always to be the same for both sides of the bar. In most weightlifting events, the athletes lift the bar off of the growing into an eventual position where they have the bar straight over their head with their arms straight. Power lifting also includes lifting or moving heavy weights, but does not include lifting a barbell straight over his head while in a standing position. The most popular power lifting and most high profile exercise is the bench press. In the bench press exercise, the weightlifter lays on a bench and pulls a steel bar loaded with weights off a rack, raises the bar straight ever his chest, and then brings the bar down and then back up before putting it back on the rack. Other power lifting routines include the squat and dead lift. All of the weight lifting events require the athlete to use his entire body, while some of the power lifting exercises include the athlete to isolate fewer muscles to make the lifts. For example, in the bench press, the weightlifter does not use his legs at all of the lifting is done with his arms and shoulders. In this article, we will examine: the different strength sports, and the work it takes to execute them.

Weightlifting. Far from being a discipline reserved for muscle-heads and thugs, weightlifting is an event that takes great courage, intelligence, and determination. An Olympic caliber athlete must dedicate thousands of hours before becoming a championship lifter. Elite international weightlifters may lift a total of more than 25 tons in a single training session. A weightlifter will use a more broad range of muscles to execute the entire routine, including his quadriceps, calves, trapezoids, and muscles in the lumbar region. The thighs are well developed and huge. The calves are not as well developed as they would be for strength sports lifts such as the dead lift and the squat.
The two major weightlifting routines are the snatch, and the clean and jerk. Both of these exercises end with the weightlifter holding the bar straight over his head, with his arms straight and locked. The snatch lift begins with the weightlifter taking a bar from the ground and pulling it off the ground. The clean part of the exercises consists of the weight pulled upward while the lifter squats and gets directly under the bar. While squatting, the athlete holds the bar directly over his head and begins to stand up. In the lifter's final push, he stands up until his legs and arms are straight with the bar directly over his head.
Power lifting is a test of pure strength, it consists of lifting a heavy weight as possible.
Paintball and strength sports both include many hours of training for a single event. Weightlifting events is currently an Olympic event while paintball is not.
