Spins and Tricks | BMX
BMX cycling sports is part of the next generation of sports, like paintball, wakeboarding, and skateboarding, where a nationally recognized player can be known as much for their style and attitude as well as style of play. BMX, as opposed to a sport like the 100 meter sprint, has competitions that rely on judges scoring, not a fixed start and stop line. BMX events has meets where a cyclist is judged on the creativity, and degree of difficulty of jumps and spins. In events like the 100 meter sprint, the goal is simply to run as fast as you can from one line to the other with going out of bounds. While the 100 meter and BMX are both reputable sports, the creative nature of BMX is what has captured the imagination of so many young athletes. The sport of BMX has grown by leaps and bounds over the last 20 years, with events such as the half pipe freestyle and the back flip. Like the newer sports like paintball and wakeboarding, there are some aspects to the sport that might seem scary to outsiders, or the mothers of players learning the game. But when BMX players use all the proper safety precautions, the sport is relatively safe and fun.

BMX is one of America's popular cycling sports. BMX is exciting because its athletes possess the power, speed, and athleticism necessary to perform the amazing jumps and flips as well as the creativity to put on an original performance for crowds. BMX has only been around since the 1960s, but its surge in popularity has rivaled other sports like paintball in the United States, and baseball in Japan. BMX is a sport that combines the physical skills of the cyclist and the mastery of amazing acrobatic techniques. BMX is dominated by three federations in the United States, the NBA, NBL, and ABA. The NBA, NBL, and ABA oversee professional and competitive events and research the game to make sure that all its players are performing at a very high level. The International BMX Federation (IBMXF) is an international body that organizes cross-nations events like the BMX world championships.
The sport of BMX is a general term for a series of cycling events that include obstacle races, and freestyle, or acrobatic events. Some of the more exotic freestyle BMX events have been featured on nationally televised events such as the X-Games in the United States. Some of the events that fall under the BMX umbrella include the track race, dirt competition, acrobatic or freestyle BMX, and the HALF Pipe. For a brief description of some of these events, view on below.
The Half Pipe. The half pipe is a popular freestyle form that is also popular among snowboarders on the ski-slopes. The half pipe has two horizontal platforms that stand over the curved end of the pipe on both sides. The curved sides of the pipe reach a height of about 3.04m and the length from one coping to another is about 11.5. In a half pipe event, a rider has 90 second to perform as many eye popping spins & tricks as he can.
