History. One of the reasons for the prestige of the Orange Bowl is its length of history. This bowl game started in 1935, making it one of the 4 oldest championship college events. The game was played at the Miami Orange Bowl from 1935 t 1995, and relocated to Dolphin Stadium in 1996. From 1968 to 1998, the game featured the champion of the Big 12 Conference, and the Big Eight Conference. The Big 12 conference is comprised of several NCAA Division I teams from the Southwestern United States, including the Colorado Buffaloes, Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Baylor Bears, Missouri Tigers, and Iowa State Cyclones. Most members of the Big 12 Conference are from the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska in the Big 12 North, and Texas, and Oklahoma in the Big 12 South. The Big Eight Conference is another conference comprised of all NCAA Division I teams. Some members of the Big Eight conference include the Colorado Buffaloes, Iowa State Cyclones, Kansas State Wildcats, and Missouri Tigers. Today, the two teams that compete in the Orange Bowl are selected from the best division I football programs around the country.
Today, the Orange Bowl Game is the host of the National Championship Game, or the game that decides who the best college football in the college football program in the country is. In the National Championship game, the two division I programs with the top 2 rankings in the country compete. The team that wins this game is declared the undisputed number 1 team in the country. But "undisputed" is always a relative term in any sport where tens of millions of dollars are at stake for a person, team, University, or owner of a professional team. The process that gives the teams competing in the event their rankings before the championship game is sometimes called into question. The 4 major Bowl Games alternate who hosts the National Championship Game every year.
The First Orange Bowl Game was played on January 1st, 1935, with the Bucknell Bison, defeating the Miami Hurricanes. Information about the Miami Hurricanes can be found in the Hurricanes Sports Section. While the Orange Bowl has hosted many impressive football programs over the years, some have been frequent fliers. The Alabama Crimson enjoyed Orange Bowl victories in 1943, 1953, 1963, and 1966.
Paintball, like the Orange Bowl, also has Championship events like the South Central Conference Championships at the Paintball Club of Choctaw.
