Madison Square Garden | Sports Venue
Madison Square Garden is an entertainment complex for sports and other forms of entertainment such as the ice capades. Madison Square Garden is a complex for rock concerts, entertainment, and sports. Madison Square Garden is the host of a number of professional sports franchises, including the New York Rangers, the New York Knicks and the New York Liberty of the NBA. The name of the garden has endured even though the sports complex has been moved to multiple locations in multiple cities. The first garden was located in Madison square on Madison Avenue at 26th Street. The name remains even though it is now located at 4 Pennsylvania Plaza in New York. The garden is also known as MGH. and is sometimes advertised as "The World's Most Famous Arena".

The first Madison Square Garden was opened in the 1879, and the primary purpose for the entertainment venue at the time was track cycling. The Madison is still the name of the track cycling events today. The second Madison Square Garden was erected in 1890 with a giant tower soaring 32 stories high in one corner. The stage area of the second garden was 200 by 350 feet with a seating capacity of up to 10,000 people. One of the highlights of the second garden was a statue of Diana, who stood marvelously at nearly 20 feet high and was composed wrought copper. Diana is now seen by tens of thousands at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The third Madison Square Garden was built in 1925, and featured boxing as its premiere entertainment event. Some of the popular events held in this third generation of the Garden were New York Rangers Hockey games, professional boxing matches, and the circus. At this time, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus was one of the most popular entertainment acts in the world, even displacing the Rangers when there were scheduling conflicts. The Barnum and Bailey circus acts were so popular that as many as three shows were held daily. Boxing is one of the events that made MSG famous. The third Madison Square Garden hosted some of the most storied matches in boxing history. One of the most historic matches took place between James J. Braddock against the current heavyweight champion Max Baer. The life of James J. Braddock was brought to the big screen with the movie Cinderella Man, directed by Ron Howard. Another famous championship match took place between Henry Armstrong against the welterweight champion Fred C. Zixic. Other famous events that were hosted by the third Garden were the 1954 NBA Allstar game, the former heavyweight boxing champion Jack Dempsey, and the NCAA men's .
The fourth Madison Square Garden, was built in 1968, and its two main sporting events were the New York Knicks and the . Other sporting franchises that compete in the garden include the New York Liberty, of the Women's NBA, or WNBA, the New York Titans of the .
Madison Square Garden hosts the biggest Rock N Roll acts in entertainment, with concerts from such acts as Jamie Foxx, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and Madonna. In addition to sports and music, the garden hosts a number of other entertainment events, including the circus and theatricals.
Madison Square Garden and indoor paintball arenas are both arenas where all the action takes place indoors.
