Heptathlon & Decathlon - Track & Field
The Heptathlon & decathlon track and field competitions draw athletes who are composed of the strength, quickness, durability, and hand eye coordination that enable them to perform so many different track and field events at a high level. The Greek organizers of the ancient Olympics wanted to hold an all inclusive series of competitions that would feature the world's best all-round athletes. The first version of the multi-series track and field games was the ancient Greek pentathlon which included 5 games, the long jump, stadium race, discus, javelin, and wrestling. In the modern era, 18th century European track and field competitions began being premiered in the Netherlands, England, and Sweden. In 1884, the United States featured a multi-event series of athletic events spanning 11 track and field events. This series of 11 track and field events was sponsored by the Amateur Athletic Union.

The first multidimensional track and field series was held for the first time in the Olympics in 1912 passes decathlon. The first decathlon was played in the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912. The decathlon series is played in two days. The decathlon series was played only by the men in the modern Olympics. The heptathlon (7 games) is played by the women in the modern Olympics. The heptathlon was first performed by the women in the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.
The Heptathlon
The Heptathlon is a series of 7 track and field teams performed by the women. The heptathlon includes the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200 meter sprint on the first day of competition. They have to live and to cap one are scored on a point system with metals and ranks submitted based on point totals at the end of the series of events. Day 2 of the heptathlon include the final three track and field events, the long jump, javelin, and 800m. The point scorers are tallied as follows.
- Long Jump. Maximum 1,520 points
- Javelin. Maximum 1,500 points
- 800m. Maximum 1,250 points
The winner of the heptathlon has shown the strength, speed, and ability to succeed in so many areas, areas such as sprinting, running long distances, jumping, and even throwing. The people that are able to compete in these series of events show such an excellent physical conditioning to be able to perform one event after another at such a high level.
The Decathlon.
The Decathlon is also a series of events, 10 track and field events performed over 2 days. Day 1 Includes the 100m, long jump, shot put, I am, and 400m. Day 2 includes the 100m hurdles, discus, javelin, and 1500m, and pole vault. Past champions of the decathlon have included Dan O'Brien who was an Olympic gold medalist in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.
