Hammer - Track & Field
The hammer is track and field's most popular event and a popular sport at the modern summer Olympics. The hammer throw is where a steel ball is attached to a wire and handle and is launched as far from the throwing area as possible. The hammer throw and other throwing events grew out of the athletic exploits of ancient hero warriors, who would use their strength and throwing abilities to win heroic battles. Some of these prized athletic abilities of these warriors included their ability to throw their shields across the river (discus) throw the spear long and accurately (javelin), and thro heavy rocks at an opponent (shot put). The hammer throw was another celebration of the athletic achievements of warriors during battles.

In the hammer track and field event, the thrower launches the hammer as far as possible. The name hammer throw is drawn from much older versions of the sport played in ancient Ireland in a series of athletic events called the Tail Teann. The Tailteann Games used roth cleas, cartwheels with a handle on its axle, as a projectile. The cleas was subsequently replaced by a blacksmith is sledgehammer. The sledge hammer throw later gave way to the hammer throw using the metal ball that we recognize today. They hammer throw was included in meets in Cambridge and Oxford in 1875, And later in the Paris Olympics in 1900. The Paris Olympics marked the first time a hammer that we know of today was used. The women's hammer throw was first debuted almost 100 years later at the world championships. The women's hammer throw made its debut in the Sydney Olympics for the first time and 2000.
Hammer throwers have 90 seconds to complete their attempt once they are given the go ahead to start the throwing sequence. The competition includes a first round where each power makes 3 attempts. The 8 athletes with the best attempts advance to the second round where they make 3 more throws. The winner of the event is the athlete with the longest launch. In the event of a tide, the winner is the aptly with the second furthest throw.
The Action Sequence. The player begins by gripping the hammer at the handle until it is about 1 ½ feet off the ground. The athlete begins to swing the hammer back and forth, building up momentum. The athlete next goes into his windmill sequence, where he swings the hammer around his head until building up to speed 2/3 rds of the way towards maximum velocity. When the hammer builds up sufficient speed, the athlete begins to spin closer to maximum velocity. After the third or fourth rotation, the throwers arms & legs straighten and he goes into his release as his arms shoot upwards and propelling the projectile down the hammer fan.
The hammer throw and paintball athletes are both strong, tough athletes.
