Gymnastics
Gymnastics is a series of events where athletes use their speed, strength, and balance to perform a series of acrobatic maneuvers while somersaulting through the air and performing complex maneuvers. The sport of gymnastics include artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, competitive aerobics, and the trampoline. All gymnastics events are indoor events. Unlike team events like soccer, beach volleyball, and rugby, most gymnastics events feature individual routines. While some artistic gymnastics events are team events where the scores of teams are added together, the exercises are still performed individually. Competitive aerobics does have team and three person events where all the athletes perform on the floor at the same time. Common traits among all gymnastics athletes include strength, power, flexibility, a sense of balance, and great coordination. Gymnastics is one sport that favors the very young athlete. Most gymnastics athletes who compete at Championship events are under the age of 25.

Artistic Gymnastics. Artistic Gymnastics features the most diverse array of routines o any discipline. For the Men's gymnastics program, there are the men's floor exercises, the vault, the Pommel Horse, Horizontal Bar, and Parallel Bars. To be successful in these events, males require strong powers of concentration, have tremendous strength in their upper body, and have excellent concentration. One popular exercise of the men's floor exercise is the reverse double salto in the tuck position. A classic maneuver in the rings exercise is the inverted cross. In the inverted cross maneuver, the athlete begins his spin until his feet are pointed straight up in the air. Once his feet are pointed straight up and his arms are held straight out, he holds this position before making his next move. The Women's Artistic Gymnastics program includes the women's floor exercises, the balance beam, vault, and uneven parallel bars. The women's and men's vault events are different, as the women use it widthwise and the men use it lengthwise. The women's vault is also lower to the ground, at 1.25 meters, while the men's vault stands at 1.35 meters.
Rhythmic Gymnastics. Rhythmic Gymnastics uses a combination of gymnastics and dance. The artistic gymnast competes along on a blue platform 12 meters by 12 meters wide. Rhythmic Gymnastics events are watched by five different judges. The Chief Judge supervises the entire competition, and the judge coordinator oversees the judges. The other three judges score the rhythmic gymnastics athletes on technical difficulty, execution, and artistic value. The athletes perform their events using 5 apparatus: the ribbon, clubs, ball, hoops and rope.
Competitive Aerobics. Competitive Aerobics is unique to gymnastics, as some of the events are group routines with two or three gymnasts performing together. These events feature athletes performing a series of athletic strength and aerobics exercises on a 7 meter by 7 meter podium. The athletes perform elements from five main families, dynamic strength, static strength, balance, jumps, and flexibility.
Trampoline. The trampoline performances involve athletes performing a series of flips and acrobatic maneuvers on a trampoline. The tumbling events consist of a series of acrobatic movements on a springy track. The athlete starts this event by running up to the spring track, performing a series of somersaults on the springy track and making a clean landing in the landing area.
