FlatLand - Acrobatic or Freestyle BMX
While cycling events like road racing, track cycling, and mountain biking involve covering as much ground as you can in a short period of time as possible, BMX events like flatland involve performing a series of tricks with your bike in judge scored events. BMX is a new type of sporting series where cyclists are judged as much by the style with which they perform as what skill they perform. Cycling events like track cycling involve making an X number of revolutions around a track in as short a time span as possible. And the pole vault involves launching yourself over the highest bar you possibly can without knocking it over. Both of these events have obvious objectives and are not open to interpretation. A pole vaulter must just get over that pole, it does not matter what technique you use as long as you just fly higher than any other athlete. (of course each event including the pole vault has its own specific rules to abide by to not be disqualified.)

What makes BMX special to other cycling events is that they involve segments where the BMXer creates his own custom routing, with his own unique combination of jumps, hops, and spins. Each riders routine is like a fingerprint, and no one's routing is the same as anyone else's. There are a number of different MX courses under the BMX umbrella, including the track race, dirt competition and acrobatic of freestyle BMX. Acrobatic or Freestyle BMX includes 3 disciplines: , street, and Flatland.
Flatland BMX. While the half pipe and dirt competition courses allow players to pick up speed and do spins and fly with the aid of man made , all flatland moves are between the player, and the bike. The entire flatland event occurs over a flat surface. This makes it a very challenging event that requires a lot of strength and flexibility. This is a choreographed event where the cyclist performs a around a musical score. Points are given based on successful executions of stunts, their degrees of difficulty, and the originality of their overall performance. Points are deducted for uncleanly performed stunts, feet touching the ground, and falls. Each cyclist performs 2 2:30 minute segments in the first round, with the best score taken towards qualifying for the next round. Four judges score each 2:30 minute pass on a zero to 100 scale. A 100 score is a perfect score. The 20 players with the best scores advance to the next round.
Decade. Decade is on eof the classic tricks in the event. The decade move involves lifting the bike up on the , and the around in a 300 while still holding the . The decade maneuver is difficult perform because it involves the rider's feet never touching the ground. The decade maneuver begins with the riders feet on the hind pegs where he breaks hard and lifts his front wheel. The rider then puts his right foot on the frame of the bike and then begins his rotation around the bike while holding the handlebars. He then spins completely around in 360° while in a crouched position. At the end of the rotation, he puts his left foot on the frame while the wheel comes back down.
