Doubles Tennis
Doubles tennis is one of a number of team sports that can be played as a team event or as an individual event. The sport has a long history, going all the way back to its first Championship, which was played in 1874. Tennis is in the category of racket sports. Racket sports are small ball sports that are played with rackets that players use to launch balls in a particular direction, inside of specified boundary lines. The other racket sports include racquetball, table tennis, badminton, and squash. Of these 4 racket sports, tennis is the most prestigious. The elite tennis players in the world are often celebrities that the average person would recognize. Some past tennis champions include Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Maria Sharpova, and Anna Kournikova. Kournikova and Sharapova, with their tennis skills and good looks, have been very successful outside of tennis in the field of entertainment and product endorsements. Tennis has two main discipline, singles tennis and doubles tennis. Singles Tennis matches are one on one matches, and doubles tennis matches are two on two. Doubles tennis matches can be with two players of the same sex, or they may be co-ed games called mixed-doubles.

Tennis matches are a serve and volley game, where one player serves the ball on the court and the other player hits it back. If the player receiving the serve is able to hit the ball back, the two players exchange volleys until one player hits the ball out of bounds, or if one player is unable to hit the ball back before it hits the ground a second time. When there is a doubles tennis match, the boundary lines on either side of the court are expanded. In singles tennis matches, players rotate by game as to who is serving. In the first game, one player serves, in the next game, the other player serves. In doubles tennis matches, a player will serve every fourth game, as he will rotate serving with his partner. Doubles tennis matches are generally not as high profile and published as singles matches. Singles players become highly ranked and well known as a result of their performances in the Grand Slams of Tennis. The Grand Slam titles are the most important tennis matches of the year, and are held in four countries around the world. The four Grand Slams include the U.S. Open, Wimbledon, French Open, and the Australia Open. The Wimbledon title is the most prestigious tennis title in the world for both the men and the women. Past female Wimbledon champions have included Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Virginia Wase, and Billie Jean King. Past Wimbledon champions in the men's singles have included Roger Federer from Switzerland, Pete Sampras from the United States, Michael Stich of Germany, and Stefan Edberg from Sweden.
Though not quite as prestigious as the singles events, the doubles championships are very exciting. When tennis doubles matches are being played, you usually have one player towards the net and one player towards the baseline.
Paintball, like tennis, has a few major leagues with their own version of the tennis Grand Slam. In the NPPL Super 7, the professionals play major tournaments in Huntington Beach California and Tampa Florida.
