In gymnastics events like the vault or the men's rings, athletes must also rely on power and strength. Like rhythmic gymnastics, components of competitive gymnastics, athletes will go through a series of rules while demonstrating incredible balance and flexibility. Aerobics athletes, like in artistic gymnastics, will use jumps and other leaps to demonstrate their vertical prowess.

The moves that the gymnast will perform will require power, endurance, flexibility, and coordination. Gymnasts perform their entire routine on a podium that is 7 meters long and 7 meters high, with a flat glossy wooden surface. When performing their routines, the gymnast must use the entire podium, and the choreography and music must start and end at the same time. Throughout the 1 minute, 45 second routine, the athlete must perform at least 12 individual elements, including one from each family. Unlike gymnastics routines like the trampoline, athletes do not use any man-made objects in competitive aerobics, other than the floor. Athletes must go through their routines fluidly, and one move must flow to the other.
