AVP Tour | Volleyball
The AVP Tour is short for the Association of Volleyball Professionals, and it was founded on July 21st, 1983. Players can go onto the tour website, (http://web.avp.com) to sign up and register for events. People who go on the website sign up for events such as the AVP Cuervo Gold Crown Miami Open or the AVP Louisville Open. Some famous players from this sport include Matt Fuerbringer, Stein Metzger, Annet Davis, and Suzanne Stonebarger. Volleyball is a sport for men and women, and it can be played both indoors and outdoors. Volleyball is a unique sport that is simple enough because all you really need is a volleyball ball, a net specifically made for playing volleyball, and at least two people to form two teams. Volleyball as a beach sport has become popular enough for standardized leagues such as the AVP and the FIVB. The FIVB stands for the Federation Internationale de Volleyball and it is an international organization for competitive volleyball.

There are standardized leagues internationally for the sport of volleyball and for both indoor and outdoor volleyball. The AVP Tour is a standardized league for the sport of Beach Volleyball, its athlete, and its enthusiasts. In 2001, after a restructuring of its management team and changes in philosophy, the organization took over the Beach Volleyball tour in Manhattan Beach, California. With this move, the AVP became the headquarters of the organization. The AVP Tour represents professional beach volleyball tours that are broadcast on cable and network television. Notable AVP Tour events include the AVP Crocs Tour, AVP Atlanta Open, the Bud Light AVP Long Beach Open, and Nissan Championships.
The commissioner of the AVP is Leonard Armato and the famous announcer of their championship games is Chris McGee, commonly knows as "Geeter". Some of the most famous players from the AVP tour on the women's side include Liz Masakayan and Karolyn Kirby, the American pair who dominated women's Beach Volleyball from 1993 to 1995. In the men's division, some of the top players have included Mike Lambert and Stein Metzger, Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal, and Matt Fuerberger and Casey Jennings. These athletes have scored a lot of points on Volleyball series such as the Crocs Cup 10, the Tampa Open, and the Louisville Open.
Early favorites in the 2006 Tour were Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers on the men's side. Phil Dalhausser is a force behind the net with his towering 6 foot 9 frame and powerful legs that can launch him way over the net. Dalhausser is from the Santa Barbara California and competed in various American and European Beach Volleyball events in 2006 and 2007. Dalhausser and his teammate Rogers are successful on two tournament circuit tours, the AVP Tour and the FIVB. Dalhausser has made the most of his athletic talents, being named as the FIVB's Best Blocker and AVP's Best Offensive Player.
Upcoming 2007 AVP Tour events include the AVP Seaside Heights Open, sponsored by Bud Light, and AVP San Francisco Best of the Beach.
