Generating Supplemental Income for Your Paintball Team
Professional and non-professional paintball teams have a lot of expenses that they must account for during the course of a season. The most obvious expenses include the depreciation of value and wear and tear on your paintball guns and gear. Though you may expect your $1,300 electronic marker to last forever, there will come a day when it will begin to break down. Other expenses include paintballs that players go through by the thousands during practices and playing the games. Still other expenses include the cost of field rentals at your local field and shooting range. All of these expenses can really add up if you take the pro and semi-pro players who practice and scrimmage five days a week.

Next, the costs really start adding u when you consider the major professional events that the most competitive teams have to travel to. Travel expenses for tournament circuits such as the NXL and NPPL Pro include entry fees, hotel, rental car, miscellaneous, and airplane. For an entire team, these expenses can run as high as $43,000. These expenses can be offset by income earned by top placement in national paintball league tournaments, and by sponsorships by major manufacturers. The hope for the future will be major national contracts that will offer leagues the ability to pay teams and players annual salaries so that players will be able to dedicate all of the their time improving their game performance.
These are several other ways of generating supplemental income for your paintball team. One method that teams have rarely tried is by trying to acquire endorsements outside of the paintball industry. Each paintball manufacturer has a yearly budget for sponsorship that they use to support major championships and competitive teams. There is only so much money manufacturers can spend on teams because there are so many. An untouched resource of revenue could be restaurants, clothing companies, and sporting equipment distributors from other sports like skateboarding and wakeboarding. Consider sporting companies like skateboarding and rock climbing where there is a lot of crossover between players who play paintball and players who play other popular extreme sports.
Paintball teams generate a lot of their income from winning championship events, and from securing sponsorships from companies like Rufus Dawg, Viper Enterprise, and Smart Parts. These companies sell paintball guns and gear that feature tournament grade machines and components. Another revenue stream comes from building up your brand name enough to promote it on paintball jerseys, paintball pants, and guns. Some marker manufacturers produce custom lines of paint guns that are designed with a team's signature colors and logo.
