Special Effects
Some enthusiasts of paintball play the game 50-100 times a year, basically any time they get a chance to. While tournament speedball is very popular discipline and probably always will be, other games that simulate real war events are also very popular. Events that simulate real historical events or historical battles are called MilSim or Scenario games. In scenario or airsoft games a players paintball clothing or marker are designed to look like a real soldier's uniform and weapon. Special effects are also often added to enhance the realistic effect of these games. In real military battles such as the Dieppe Raid soldiers had to face enemy gun fire, the sounds of blasting coming from all directions, and smokescreens. In paintball scenario events, various special effects are also added to games such as paintball tanks, paint grenades, smoke screens, and rocket launchers. All of these props mentioned serve to make the games more realistic and add a little excitement to the matches. All special effects props are thoroughly tested to meet safety precautions.

There are a number of special effects that an be added to games to make them more interesting. One popular special effect is the smoke screen. The some screen can be seen on some scenario fields, and are designed to disrupt a players field of vision to give another team an advantage. The smoke screen may come from a stationary apparatus on a field, or a cloud of smoke may come from a paint grenade that was launched by the opposing team. Some manufactures of paint grenades include Special Ops paintball, makers of the F-Bomb (Big Boy) Grenade. When the pin is pulled on the F-Bomb, a huge cloud of smoke coming from this projectile will be soon to follow, and this small hand held device provides a huge advantage to the thrower. The F-Bomb Grenade is filled with nearly 12 ounces of orange filled paint that yields a huge paint spray when dropped near its target. The F-Bomb is a very reliable special effects device, and goes off nearly 100% of the time.
Other special effects projectiles include the Squad Buster paint Grenade by Tippmann . The Squad Buster paint Grenade is all black, compact, and ready to project a huge spray of paint when dropped near its target. The Squad Buster is activated when its pin is pulled and thrown at its target. When the paint is discharged it unloads a cloud of paint out in all directions. The paint from this paint grenade can travel as far as 20 feet.
There are several paintball fields in the United States that are especially well designed for scenario games, and have a number of great special effects incorporated into its events. At Skirmish Down Under is the Australian outback. Their fields are equipped with a number of special effects. Some of the special effects at Skirmish Down Under include smoke screens, paintball grenade launchers, and rocket launchers.
