Play Tight - Playing Tight
Playing tight is a general term for keeping your marker close to your body and keeping your arms and legs close to your body, as to not give away your position. Remember that when peeking around the corner or over the bunker, you must consider what your opponent can see. Playing tight means taking a lookout position and keeping as much of your body as possible still under cover. If you need to look around the corner, make sure that you do not lead with your paintgun. Move over the bunker no more than you need to see what is going on in the field. When you are playing tight, you are trying to minimize the risk of being shot by keeping your arms and paintball gun close to your body.

When you play tight, you will want to move your body around in such a way as to make yourself a small a target as possible.
The only way to guarantee that you will not get shot by a paintball is to stay home that day. That being said, there are ways to make yourself a smaller target to your opponent. Some suggestions for becoming a smaller target (playing tight) are listed below.
- Keep your body as tight as you can, and keep those elbows in, whenever possible. Make sure to keep your elbows close to your body, even when you are shooting.
- Don't forget that your paintball gun is an extension of your body. If your marker is hit, you will be eliminated from competition. Make sure that your gun barrel, hopper, tank, and loaders are not sticking out from cover, and within the sight of a sniper.
- Look around the barrier, not over it. By looking around the barrier, you will minimize the amount of head that would be visible to your opponent.
- Don't forget that your enemy is always moving all around the field, sometimes coming in sideways and from behind you. Make sure to turn around and look to see all that is around you. Don't always expect your enemy to come straight at you. Always be prepared to fire shots of any of your enemy come within range.
- Playing tight means making yourself a small target at all times, even if you are charging for an enemy flag. Practice and implement keeping yourself low to the ground even when you snap up and leave your barrier. Always keep your gun and gear close to your body.
- Make sure to keep your whole body within the barrier when there. If you are crouching or crawling, make sure that your posterior is not sticking over the bunker or that your feet are sticking out behind it.
- Another tactic involved in playing tight is the act of not loitering in any one location for too long. If you keep popping out of the same place, you are giving your opponent an opportunity to just sit back and line you up for elimination.
- If you are prepared to eliminate an opponent, then be prepared to snap out of your barrier quickly, take your shot, and then retreat back into cover fast. The longer you linger out in the open the greater the opportunity you give your opponent to eliminate you.
