Paintball Barrier Netting
Most paintball fields have paintball barrier netting around their fields, especially if the fields are near the snack areas or anyplace where players have their goggles off. Remember that you do not only need your goggles on when you are playing the game, because a stray bullet can hurt your eyes just as much. Paintball barrier netting also allows friends, family, and fans to come and watch the games. The netting allows fans to get closer to the game action without being in danger of getting hit with the paintball. Some big time tournaments where friends and fans like to come to watch the games include the New England Paintball League and the Crossroads Tournament Series.
The Crossroads Tournament Series hosts most of their games out of the Midwestern United States. The Crossroads Tournament Series is a unique league that has competitive games for speedball tournaments and Big Game Scenario events. Other leagues like the PSP and the Millennium Series specialize mainly in the inflatable bunker speedball format. Most crossroads speedball events are in the 5-Man Tournament series format. In 2007, the CTS hosted tournament events in several different locations, including Asylum Extreme, Proving Grounds, and Paintball Barn. Many of the fields hosting Crossroads Tournament Series tournaments supply paintball barrier netting to keep the games safe and civilized. CTS is sponsored by American Paintball Supply, and Extreme Rage.
The ASTM has a published article of their website about the function and intended use of paintball barrier netting. The purpose of their publication is to provide field owners with guidelines for purchasing this product and how to set it up to make sure that all participants in paintball games are safe. Though there are several suppliers of barrier netting, not all nets are the same quality. It is important for the netting systems to be strong, and durable enough to catch projectiles that are traveling as fast as 300 fps. Also, the ASTM has published several recommendations on the size of the netting. The fabric of paintball barrier netting must be big enough to absorb the small paintball projectiles. Most paintballs are .68 caliber, meaning that its diameter is .68 one hundredths of an inch. The netting must be manufactured so that the small projectiles do not pass through the net.
Besides keeping the players safe, the barrier netting also serves the purpose of separating different fields as well as other sections of the complex including the target ranges and the chronograph areas. These big nets give players some fields boundaries that are easy to see from far away.
One popular producer of paintball barrier netting is Alpha Standard Paintball Netting. This mesh by Alpha Standard is light and strong, and passes all ASTM quality guidelines. This netting is used by paintball fields all over the United States. This netting is built well, and typically lasts from six to eight years. Alpha also makes a number of different field turfs, including Maverick Turf and Alpha Standard Turf.
