Role Playing in Paintball
With advances in paintball technology, and in construction fields, role playing has grown greatly in the last ten years. Role playing is one aspect of scenario games where teams and sides have a contest that simulates events based on real conflicts or fantasy. Some real events that are simulated are Vietnam, World War II, or even the Civil War between the North and South. Some fantasy events that are simulated are the Battle of Pellonon Fields at the conclusion of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. All of these historical and fictitious events have certain elements in common such as the need for courage, determination, resolve, and a faith in your own men.

Role playing in paintball has become popular to players seeking to take on the personal and heroic characters seeking to overcome impossible obstacles. In these role playing games, we become the warrior that we are always dreamed of being. The Warrior. The Leader. The Unitor of Armies. In taking on the character of men such as Robert E. Lee, the commander of the confederacy, you are taking on the responsibility of defending your whole nation from a northern invasion. The leader of the confederacy must at once maintain the courage of his men, and make all the right tactical moves to keep his armies in a position to win. By not shoring up a particular line of defense, you may allow the enemy a chance to invade your territory and win the war.
In role playing paintball games, the possibilities are endless. Many paintball fields had forts set up specifically for role playing games. At Randolph Paintball, in Randolph, Massachusetts, a fort has been constructed to resemble Helm's Deep, of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Helm's Deep, in the Trilogy was the last line of defense for the army of Rohan as it tried to fight off the veils of the world. Other fields have fantasies set up with sniper points in the top, middle, and bottom to fire from. The fortresses may be used to capture a general, to capture a flag, or in all out player elimination.
Role playing in paintball often samples the old west of the United States where most conflicts were decided in a shootout between two gunslingers. Some fields have constructed Old West towns and alleyways and old west mining camps. These towns in the Old West conjure up the image of real justice, John Wayne style. In towns portrayed in the John Wayne movies, the tough but virtuous John Wayne gunslinger carries around his justice in his holster and always gets the bad guy in the end. This brand of justice is a stark contrast to endless streams of paperwork, deal making, and plea bargaining that go along with civil litigation. In paintball role playing, you can shoot up your conflict, and your enemy.
Role playing scenario games have become popular and are the format of some well know paintball matches in the US Scenario games like "Return to Wolf's Lair at EMR Park features huge crowds of paintball players. Return to Wolf's Lair is about ancient lines of heroic ancestors passed down to all generations to arrive at the population of today. This population then reaches on these ancient powers to stand together in fierce battles and ultimate victory. Though today's victory will come from paintball impact and not by sword or mortar.
