Start & End of Game
There are a set of universal signals that signal the start and end of a paintball game. These signals are designed to be heard and understood by all of the players in the game.
The start of game signal is usually heard by a bullhorn, a whistle, or a call of "Game On!" from the referee. The auditory signal must be heard by all players on both teams. The auditory signal may be used in combination with visual signal from the referee. The ref may hold a towel up in the air, and then call Game on!, as he brings the towel down. The combination of visual and auditory signals is important in the event of games with hearing or visually impaired participants. Some games use only auditory signals and some games u se only visual signals.

The start of game signal may be preceded by other signals that will tell the players that the game will be started soon. These types of signals will come as a 1 minute warning or a two minute warning, telling the players to get I into position. Auditory signals may be heard as "Game starts in one minute" or the more common "one minute warning".
As stated above, the referee may use auditory and visual signals designating game start. In the event of paintball games on larger fields, auditory signals are more convenient. On large fields players usually make their first move after hearing h ref's whistle or call from a bullhorn. On large fields and games that don't have refs on hand, players use whistles to signal start and end to the games. In these games, both teams have a whistle to communicate. Team 1 whistle stating that they are ready to go. Team 2 will then return the whistle saying that they are ready to go. Then team 1 will blow the whistle again, effectively starting the game. The whistles are usually blown from the two flag stations and left there. When one player reaches another team's flag and pulls it, they blow the whistle at the flag station signaling the end to the game.
End of the Game Signal.
The end of the game signal comes from an opposing player grabbing the flag and then using the whistle at the flag station. Other auditory end of the game signals include a bullhorn or a call from the ref saying "Game Over!" a "Barrel Plugs In". This call will be repeated until all game activities stop. Other nonverbal end of game signals may be used, especially in hearing impaired players are participating. One will recognized end of game signal involves the referee waving his hands back and forth over his head.
All signals will be explained prior to the start of the game to make sure everyone involved understands them.
