NPPL Official Rulebook
"One of the ugly side effects of competitive sports has always been the added temptation to cheat. You can almost hear the inner bad guy calling out as you contemplate a sport of wiping; "Good, good, give in to the dark side."

Paintball is a sport explosively growing in popularity, practically doubling its fan base every ten years. With this growing fan base comes television contracts with stations like ESPN2 and competitive tournaments where big prize money is sometimes at stake. The above quote was made by Nick Cobb, of Paintball Games International, talking about cheating in paintball, and its potential effects on the game. While the referee may not catch every cheat on the field, he does have the NPPL Official Rulebook. The NPPL Official Rulebook is a manual published online by the NPPL, who host the NPPL Super 7 World Series. This rulebook was created so that all referees would have an undisputed list of guidelines for scoring and referring all paintball games under the NPPL banner.
The NPPL Official Rulebook has 6 sections that cover registering in the leagues and registering for events, gearing yourself up for tournament games, game rules, point scoring, the game rules, and other pertinent information about events like the Huntington Beach Major. Section 1 of the rulebook talks about field sizes and dimensions, how to register and pick up an ID Card, and how teams and players receive their ranking. Section II is about your paintball marker and other gear that you will need for the tournament games. Section III talks about game rules, where to go when eliminated flag hands, and flag carriers. Section III also details game start, game stoppages, and checkout procedures. Section IV talks about points, score sheets, and TIE Breakers. Section II lists actions that you will take on the field that will get you on your team penalized. This section will list the most obvious penalties like wiping and playing on, as well as additional penalties such as intentionally hitting or pushing another player. Section IV of the NPPL Official Rulebook has miscellaneous information about player behavior, on and off the paintball field. All players are required to act professionally, and refrain from making any obscene gestures or use any obscene language while in or near game action. Some of the elite teams in the NPPL include the San Diego Dynasty, and the Stockholm Joy Division.
Section one lists some important information about signing up for and competing in NPPL events. Page 5 in this section details player III Cards and classification. This section states that players must have a valid NPPL player Identification Card (ID) to play any NPPL hosted event. When participating in a NPPL event, players should carry their ID card on them at all times. Section III talks about your marker, your gear, and what type of gear is prohibited at their events. Some prohibited equipment includes paint grenades, and devices that produce smokescreens, any non-water soluble paintballs, or any type of communication devices like earpieces, or walkie-talkies.
