Rec Play
Rec Play is another name for recreational play. Rec Play is basically all of the paintball games that are not tournaments or airball games. Or professional matches. While the popularity of high profile matches such as the NXL is undisputed, most of the games the average players enjoy come from rec play. Rec Play games, while extremely competitive, are meant to be fun and not taken too seriously. While the elite players might enjoy the glory in professional matches in the National X Ball League, satisfaction from rec play games comes from within. If you play your heart out and leave everything on the field, you will be able to go home with a satisfaction that no sponsor could provide. While rec play games are not televised or played with such high profile scrutiny there are some essential elements to now about to be a successful player in the style of paintball. Some tactical tips for recreational paintball are provided below.

Knowing the value of teamwork.
There will never be any one player on the field who is so talented that they can go it alone. Each player must rely on the support and teamwork of his team to create a successful outcome. Teamwork is very 8important if you and your men are to succeed on the rec lay paintball field. If a leader on a team oriented squad has the confidence that he is well covered by his own men, then he will be more successful making his charge towards the opposition. In most instances, the longer a team practices and players together, the more successful they are in rec play and tournament style games.
"Coordination is the key. I remember crossing the road maybe 50 times in a day until I was satisfied that our squad had it right. Then, we did it again with everyone occupying a different position in the squad. Everyone had to know someone else's job." John Harrris, U.S. Army NCO, Tactical Paintball.
The passage by John Harris, a retired U.S. Army NCO and specialist demonstrates the importance of a group of players getting into a team, and practicing all of their exercises until they become almost second nature. Practice makes perfect is a well know phrase in the American lexicon and especially relevant to the game of paintball. Another interesting tactic used by John Harris and his Special Forces unit was the rotation of positions. By rotating positions, the leader is able to become the supporter, and vice versa. Players get a chance to know their own position and to be able to see the field from the teammate's eyes. Understanding all the positions on the field would make a person a better paintball player.
Practice Drills for Sharpening Paintball Skills.
It is helpful for teams playing rec play paintball games to participate in a wide variety of challenging and fun practice drills. If you master a wide variety of practice drills, you will be better equipped to handle any situation that arises in the paintball game. One great exercise for sharpening your skills is the immediate action drill. The Immediate Action Drill is used to rehearse reactions to contact with the opposition. When you become proficient at this drill, you will be better prepared to make slit second decisions on how to respond to sudden changes during rec play paintball matches.
