ESPN2
ESPN2 was created as a sister station to ESPN to offer viewers access to the type of sporting events that ESPN did not regularly cover. ESPN2 covers sports such as paintball, BMX motorcross, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and boxing, and tennis. In contrast, the parent company ESPN covers the major sports such as football, baseball, hockey, and basketball. While these four major sports do dominate the sports landscape, the younger generations of sports fans have been looking for sports like motorcross, where the action is fast, and the moves are a little risky. Games like baseball to not always appeal to the younger fans, where innings can go by without someone scoring. Sports like BMX feature high flying action and stunts like flips and somersaults in the air.

ESPN2 does show X-Games sports like Wakeboarding and skateboarding. But ESPN2 also shows sporting events that the flagship station just does not have the time to broadcast. Other sporting events broadcast by ESPN2 include the tennis Australian Open, college basketball events such as Division 1 NCAA basketball, and Women's NBA basketball, for the WNBA. ESPN2 are proud broadcasters of WNBA events, and this partnership is still going strong, going into its second decade. Some of the most popular WNBA games include the Chicago Sky and the New York Liberty.
ESPN2 is also proud broadcasters of the next most popular tier of sports entertainment after the big four professional league, division 1 college basketball. College sports appeal to many sports fans because they feature young, amateur players. For many fans, college sports represents players at their best, student athletes who are playing for the love of the game, rather than multimillion professional contracts. Some NCAA college basketball games that are broadcast on ESPN2 include Duke University, the Michigan Wolverines, Kansas State, Ohio State, Gonzaga, Portland, and North Carolina. ESPN2 broadcasts many of these games during the college season, leading up to the March Madness playoff tournament that takes place in late March and early April. March Madness is a single elimination tournament that features the top 65 college Division 1 Teams. The highlights of this tournament are the Final Four, where the winners of the four starting brackets compete in semi-finals, and the final game known as the national championship. Along with the baseball World Series, and the football Super Bowl, March Madness has become one of the most watched sporting events in the country. Many March Madness games are broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2. Logon to the NCAA Website www.NCAAsports.com/basketball/mens for more information about Division 1 Women's Basketball and Division 1 Men's Basketball.
ESPN Sports features a diverse array of sporting events in its weekly schedule, from the less physically demanding sporting activity 2007 World Series of Poker, to more intense extreme sports like Formula 1 Racing. Extreme sports are events that are usually based on individual performances and events where athletes reach great heights and fast velocities. Some prominent Extreme sports broadcast on ESPN2 include XGames like Moto Madness.
