Squad | Squads
The squad is a group of two or more players (usually more) that work together to outnumber and eliminate an opponent, accomplish an objective, or push towards an enemy flag. Generally, two judges have a better chance of being accomplished if two or more players protect one another, and back each other up. The line gunmen may work in the Dirty Harry or John Wayne movies, but solo runners rarely make it far without backup.

The size of a squad may depend on the type of game being played. League circuits such as the CFOA and the SXPL feature speedball games in small arenas with 3 on 3, 5 on 5, and 7 on 7 matches, so the squads are usually pretty small. In matches like these, a number of players must always stay back to guard the team flag, and to guard the front players.
Scenario games feature much bigger games, played with as many as hundreds of people over more than 25 acres. In these types of big games, teams are split into several squads, each with a particular objective that they must complete. These individual objectives are often referred to as missions, and the squad and team are awarded points for completing the mission. The team that earns the most points by the end of the scenario event wins the event.
Paintball squads work together and move together. To stay effective, players and the squad must keep enough of a distance from one another so that they don't become too big of a target, but they must stay close enough so that they will be able to protect one another. Squad players and recreational paintball usually number between 4 to 6 players. Squads are usually expected to remain pretty small, as they require stealth to make significant advances into enemy territory without being seen. Squads either have the responsibility of accomplishing the games objective, or their job may be to sneak up on the enemy and eliminate players when they achieve a player advantage. Paintball games that feature squads have been played on paintball fields like Drop Zone Paintball in Lawrence Kansas and PnL Paintball Bridgewater in Bridgewater Massachusetts.
PnL Paintball Bridgewater has a couple of large woodsball fields. The fields are big enough for teams to be far enough away from each other at game start to take stealth and flanking positions. The staff at PnL are diligent about chronographing, and they take player safety very seriously. One of the highlights of this field is a full scale Ghost Town. People come from all over the state to sample and play on PnL Paintball Bridgewater's unique and amazing fields.
