Roamer - Roamers | Paintball Impact
Roamers are the only players on the defending team allowed to move freely outside the fort, although they too must begin the game inside the fort. Roamers are a player used in attack and defend games and multiple like games. In attack and defend games an attacking team must begin the game away from a structure for defending, far enough away to be out of shooting range. The defense remains near the structure for defending, and must hold out the fort until time expires on the clock. These games take on many variations, but the common theme is that the attacking players have a free run of the field while the defending players must remain near the fort. Roamers are an exception to the rule. In most games, one or two defending roamers are allowed to scout the movements of the attacking team.

Like most attack and defend games, the roamers as defensive players are not able to return to the game once they have been eliminated. In most and multiple life games, attackers are allowed one additional life if shot, while defenders leave the game for good if hit.
In games such as these, one or two roamers are designated, who are able to come to and from their defensive area. A player designated as a roamer trade place with a teammate at the fort, allowing the other player to become the roamer and leave the defensive area. If the roamers are killed in action, they may not be replaced. If a roamer is hit, he may not return to the fort, and he must leave the game.
There are many versions of these games that feature the roamers. In the game Attack the Fort, defending players begin inside the fort, and the attacking team starts out far enough away to allow for the roamers to disperse. One person on the attacking team is given a flag attached to a . The goal of the game is for the attacking team to breach the outer defenses of the fort, and to get the flag to the tower section of the fort. This game isn't for the faint of heart, due to the inevitable conflict between teams shooting at such a close range. Attack the fort games are 10 minutes in length, and the defending team wins if the flag to tower objective hasn't been accomplished in ten minutes.
In the , the objective is not to bring the flag to a certain location, but to shoot at an object located within a fortification of defensive point. In this game, the object to be shot at is a bunny. The goal of the game is to make it passed the defensive area and close enough to shoot the bunny in the goggles. The defenders must remain close to the bunny, with one or tow roamers that are able to engage the enemy further from the fort.
