Mid Player - Paintball Position
In recreational and tournament matches there are a number of important paintball positions on the field, including the front players, cover players, utility players, sniper, and the mid player. Some players specializing in manning one specific section, while others rotate into player positions or field sections as needed. Each player position requires a certain skill set and marker gear to succeed at that spot. Players like the cover players will be shooting a lot of paint, so they will need a large air system and several paintball pods to reload. The front players will often spend more time running than shooting so they will be on the move more and will need to travel light. To practice your skills at various player positions, visit and play on some great fields like Bad Boyz Toyz in Vernon Hills Illinois, and Apache P & L Paintball in Holbrook Massachusetts.

Paintball Mid Player - The Mid Player is one of the most multi-skilled players, he is the fill-in man. The Mid Player steps into the position of a player who has been eliminated. The Mid Player usually started the game in front of the back player and behind the tape runner. This player is both versatile, and well conditioned, as he will potentially be moving from one end of the field to another within a game. When his team is playing at full strength, the mid player will support his other front players as they move into a striking position, or will move back to shore up an area in the defensive zone that needs support. In many games, a Mid Player may start a game performing many back player duties, such as laying down paint as the point man surges forward. At critical times in the game, the mid player may jump in front of the tape runner becoming the point man.
The Mid Player also plays a key role as the information center of the team, relaying codes back and forth between the back players, and the front players. While his team is at or near full strength, his primary job is to keep the tape runner alive and in the game. The tape runner is constantly on the move, so he does not always have the ability to return fire at opponents, or to win games, the mid player must recognize where the tape runner is vulnerable, and he must quickly lay down paint in that direction. This player is an important team component on fields like Paintball Wizard in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and Joker's Wild Paintball in Burling, Iowa.
With his responsibilities for supporting the tape runner, the mid player carries a lot of paint. The tape runner hops from bunker to bunker, often not even knowing what is in store for him before he makes his move. It is a confidence builder for the tape runner to know that he is well backed up by his mid player. Also, the mid, standing further back, has a better field awareness, and can communicate the positions and movements of the other opposing players up the field. The mid player's gun is usually smaller than the back player's, which allows him a little more flexibility should he need to rotate into the point man position. If the tape runner or the back player is eliminated, he may need to rotate into that position.
Along with a comfortable, protective uniform, a players paintball gear may include a cup, which is nearly as important as a face mask, and a thermal lens on his goggles that prevents fogging in hot and humid game conditions.
