Ball Detent - Paintball
The ball detent is located near the chamber of your paintball gun. The ball detent is the mechanism that holds the paintball in place so that it doesn't roll out. The ball detent stops more than one ball from feeding into the chamber. If multiple balls were to fire from the chamber it once, it could cause the paintballs to fire inaccurately or for the two balls to burst in the chamber or the gun barrel.

The ball detent keeps your marker firing one shot at a time, so that the inside of marker stays clear and your shots fire accurately. The ball detent is also sometimes called the wire nubbin, anti-doubler, or ball stop. The wire nubbin keeps no more than a single paintball from loading into the chamber of the paint gun during a single cycle. The ball detent holds the paintball in a stationary position until the marker's bolt pushes the paintball into the barrel of the gun.
Once that paintball is fired out of the chamber and through the barrel, once cycle has been completed, and the next paintball is dropped into the chamber. Some markers come with their own barrels, and some are sold without them. There are many different barrels on the market, or various compositions based on price and player preference. Aluminum barrels are popular because they are strong and light. Brass barrels are among the cheapest and are known to have the least friction on the ball. Stainless steel barrels are heavier than brass and aluminum barrels, but are popular among recreational players.
The ball detent is an essential component of most paintball markers. There are many excellent products on the market for paintball markers. For partial list of markers and manufactures, read on below.
