Paintgun Paintguns
Before venturing out onto the paintball field, you want to make sure to select the best paint gun that you can in order to have a good game. A paint gun comes in a wide variety of sizes and weights. Paintguns come in a variety of shapes and styles, ranging from simple models to very complex. The two main versions of the paint gun is the stock gun and the pumpgun. Stockguns must be reloaded frequently. Stockguns are powered by C02 (powerlets) that must be changed every 20-30 shots. Almost all stockguns are pump guns. When shooting a pumpgun, he/she will cock the paint gun with a pump, and then squeeze the trigger. The paint gun must be recocked before he can take another shot. A paintgun pumpgun may be powered by C02 powerlets that can fill up to 25 shots, or 12 gram refillable C02, compressed in cylinders that can fill hundreds of shots.
With semiautomatic paintball paintguns, a player can fire multiple shots without having to cock the marker. Usually, Semiautomatic paintball markers are powered by refillable cylinders. After the paintgun is first cocked, a player may fire multiple shots by pulling the trigger for each shot. In a semi-automatic system, the player must pull the trigger each time they want to blast one paintball at an opponent. With a fully automatic system, the paintgun is cocked once, and then the gun will fire repeatedly by holding down the trigger release. The paintgun will continue to shoot until the trigger is released.

When you are using your paintgun, you must remember to exercise all universal precautions to ensure for a safe game for yourself and the other around you. "While a paintball hit is very benign when exercising universal precautions, there are injuries associated with this extreme sport if all safety precautions are not considered. Most important, is for protection for the eyes and face. Special goggles and head-protection are mandatory for players to step onto the paintball field. In general, paintgun players should cover up there arms and legs as much as possible. Parts and long sleeve shirts are recommended as paintballs travel at a high velocity.
Also recommended if not mandatory are chronographs and barrel plugs. Chronographs measure the velocity of a paintball as it exits your paintgun. If the paintball travels to fast, it could explode inside the gun, and if it travels too slow, it may not open and splatter when it hits the opponent. In paintball, the per second maximum velocity allowed worldwide is 300 feet. In close range competition and indoor paintball, the maximum velocity recommended is 275 feet per second fps. In league play, a team may be disqualified for exceeding maximum velocity, a penalty of points may occur.
Another safety measure is the use of barrel plugs over the paintgun if a player is splattered out of the game. If a player has been eliminated, they must insert a plug into the end of the paintgun to prevent an unintentional firing of the machine. This is to prevent a paintgun from going off when the player is no longer active on the field and is in the neutral zone.
