Flanking - Flank - Paintball Movement
Flank is a paintball tactic that teams use, where they fire on the enemy to distract them, while an attacking player moves up from the sides. An experienced player or player who has tunnel vision is especially vulnerable to this tactic. The flank tactic is successful when opposing players use all of their energy to ward off an attack and don't see the front player coming at them from around the sides. While the opposing team is preoccupied with the shots coming from the middle of the fields, an attacker that they have failed to see approaches them from the sides or even from behind them. Then the flanking player can eliminate them or barrel tap them.
The flank maneuver it is one of hundreds of paintball tactics that a player might try to use in a game. Attacking players who try to find the enemy will always rely on their back players and mid - fielder's to provide covering fire as they move further into enemy territory. Covering fire the backup fire that a tape runner receives from his back and mid players as he moves into enemy territory. Without covering fire, the front player or the tape runner would not be able to survive against so many defenders. An advancing player will often call "cover fire" or "cover me" if he thinks that he does not already have back up from his teammates. If the attackers teammates manage to lay down some good cover fire, and the defenders will have their hands full avoiding elimination, giving the attacker a chance to make his move. At the very least, the cover fire will inhibit the enemies defense just long enough for the attacking player to make it to the next bunker or accomplish his objective.

The flank is a classic paintball tactic that is used on fields all over the United States. In Georgia alone, there are over 50 paintball fields where players can practice snap-shooter drills and play competitive games. At A.W.O.L. AWOL paintball even has a unique recreational fire field with 5 foot, 6 foot. and 9 foot tire bunkers that allow players to stay on their feet as they shoot.
