MilSim
MilSim is a new term relevant to the game of paintball and airsoft. MilSim is a new term that represents Military Simulations. Military Simulations, a MilSim have become popular in these two sports for players looking to take these games further, and a fantasy act out famous battles from military history such as the Battle of Mogadishu or the Battle of Guadalcanal. These types of battle represent the most intense and awe inspiriting conflicts in military history, with determination and heroism on both sides. These types of battles highlight advances in the worlds technology, as well as each side relying of teamwork to accomplish victory.
MilSim, in paintball and airsoft, provides players with some action packed events and some exciting military live action role playing elements. Due to these games taking place out in the open and for the weapons used, popular modern battles are often feature in MilSim matches. Some of these modern historic battles include the Battle of the Bulge, and the American civil War. Great lengths are taken to make these military battles similar to the weapons and surroundings of real historical events. The first example of this can be observed from the paintball guns and arisoft guns used for these role playing matches. These guns often look nearly identical to the ones used in real military conflicts. In the sport of airsoft, manufacturers like Airsoft Elite make a number of guns that are exact replicas to guns used in the military. These Airsoft Guns are made with a high grade aluminum that is both light and strong. The Airsoft Elite also features a motor plate cover that reflects heat, and keeps the gun from overheating.

While MilSim has a lot of the same rules as traditional paintball games, there are some key differences. First is the nature of elimination of MilSim vs. paintball matches. In paintball when you are hit, you or the referee signals that you are out, and you leave the game, not to come back. In MilSim matches, on the other hand, a player usually goes into a purgatory zone where he must wait for a buzzer to sound, before he can go back into the game. Single elimination is kind of impractical for MilSim because of the length of matches, and the number of players involved. MilSim match can last as long as a whole day and players getting eliminated in the first hour would get bored pretty quickly.
While typical paintball matches such as speedball, focus on speed, MilSim matches focus more on traditional military tactics, such as reconnaissance, patrolling land navigation and moving in a line with your team. MilSim matches rely more on units moving as a team than individual achievement. MilSim matches usually last over six hours and can even take place over the course of an entire weekend. In most cases, players will set up tents for the night, and play will commence in the morning. In some ambitious MilSim matches, elements of the game are played overnight where nighttime scouting, and even nigh time ambushes are conducted to make the event more exciting.
