D-Day - Invasion of Normandy Beach - Paintball Milsim
The invasion of Normandy, France, popularly known as D-Day, took place on June 6, 1944. Until this day, the Allied forces backed by Britain and the United States did not have a base of operations on the European mainland. The successful invasion of Normandy changed all that. On this day, United States, English, and Canadian forces stormed five sections of the Normandy beach, which would set of a new direction in the World War II conflict.
(The German Occupation of Normandy) From approximately 1939 - 1947, the German Reich occupied most of Europe, including Poland and France. The Blitzkreig campaigns of the Axis of power in these years used overwhelming forces that included tanks and a heavy artillery to occupy many European countries. The Blitzkrieg campaigns involved overwhelming forces and deployment of troops at high rates of speed. In these campaigns, there were swift movements of troops into areas after a shocking series of bombardments. These interim artillery bombardments and movement of soldiers was so swift that they never gave their soldiers a chance to launch a counter-offensive. Some popular weapons used during Blitzkrieg offensives were heavily armed tanks, German bombers, and a swift moving infantry to move in and occupy the regions under attack.

As a result of successful blitzkrieg campaigns, The German Army occupied many lands in Europe, including Poland, France, and the cost of Northern Africa. The Axis led by Italy and German controlled nearly all of mainland Europe, with the exception of neutral Sweden, Switzerland, Portugal, and Spain. Hitler's domination of its European continent would have continued without a challenge to them on the mainland. Under the advice of Joseph Stalin from the Soviet Union, and England's Winston Churchill, the Allies began constructing an army and equipment that would allow for a successful invasion and sustained military presence. American began building up an army as well as an air force and landing gear to meet this new challenge. George c. Marshall, President Franklin Roosevelt's Chief of Staff, tapped General Dwight d. Eisenhower to plan the attack and design a strategy for an eventual German surrender.
While the Allies began assembling their forces, Hitler began reinforcing posts in France to fight off an inevitable invasion. Hitler's choice to keep Allied Forces off the mainland was Erwin Rommel. Erwin Rommel was the most recognized and celebrated commander of the German Army. He was a long decorated veteran of World War I and World War II and was also known as the Desert Fox. His successful military campaigns became well know to his allies as well as Allied forces and his army was even know as the "Ghost Division". His division was known as the Ghost Division due to its quick assaults and military campaigns. His campaigns were so quick that even the German High Command had trouble tracking their movements and advances.
During and after the Invasion of Normandy Beach on D-Day, General Rommel launched a series of deadly but unsuccessful counter offensives to push back the Allied Armies back into the sea.
