The Battle of the Bulge - Milsim Paintball Games
The Battle of the Bulge occurred on December 16th, 1944. The Battle of the Bulge was a military conflict during the Second World War. The battle was fought with the United States and English forces on one side and the German army on the other side of the conflict.
On December 16th, 1944, the German Army began a full scale offensive with the goal of fracturing the allied forces led by the United States and England. The German title for this conflict was the Ardennes Offensive. This bold move by the Germans was to be an all out attach that would crush the allied army and force a surrender. The entire military conflict was devastating for both sides, with the Axis of power failing to force surrender and end to the war. Over 160,000 soldier casualties of war resulted from the Battle of the bulge, with over 80,000 soldiers injured on both sides. The entire series of conflicts that describe the Battle of the Bulge took place between December 16th 1944 and January 24th 1945. The conflict took place in the Ardennes of Belgium, and the commanders of the conflict were Dwight D. Eisenhower from the United Stets and Gerd Von Rundstedt leading his 200,000 men with 2000 guns and about 550 tanks.
In the events leading up to the Battle of the bulge, the allies made a quick path towards Germany subsequent to the invasion of Normandy. As a result to this new threat, the German commanders assembled an army that it hoped would crush the allies, once and for all. The goal of the German armies was to surround the Allies 100th infantry division, the 422nd, 423rd, and the 112th Regiment. The first allied division to meet the attack of the German army was the 100th Infantry. After the first shots were run out, 72 hours of brutal fighting ensued, and the 423rd and 422nd Regiments were surrounded. While all of this was happening, other regiments and infantry's were regrouping, combining their forces, and preparing to mount a counter attack. The parties to mount the counter offensive were the 424th and the 112th Regiment. There combined forces produced a Regimental Combat Team and ultimately drove back the German army in a conflict that become know as the Battle of the Bulge.
In the afternoon of December 16th, 1944 the Germans drove their forces into the heavily wood and rocky Ardennes region of northern Luxembourg and East Belgium. The German army succeeded in taking the Allies by surprise, but the unexpected invasion did not stop the allies from fighting back tenaciously. American Staff Commanders made a fateful decision to concentrate the majority of its forces north and south of the Ardennes, and the Germans struck dead in the center much to their surprise. Allied leaders decided to keep the line then in the Ardennes. The Allied line held with the combined presence of 4 military divisions, with 2 divisions in reserve and making local attacks.
The Germans failed to achieve most of their goals during the Battle of the Bulge. One of their goals was to take control of the Meuse River, a location the Americans held. Some elements to the Allied counter offensive include p-41s fighter planes conducting bombing raids of German supply posts, a counter assault led by forces led by General George S. Patton, and the recommendation of German General Hasse Von Manteuffell to halt the conflict.

The Battle of the Bulge is a popular historical battle re-enacted in scenario paintball games. Certain bulge re-enactments include surprise attacks by opposing forces, paint grenades fired from trenches and tank and helicopter props used for cover and firing stations.
