GPL
The GPL is also know as the Global Paintball League. The GPL draws the most teams in the northeast U.S. to its fields that include Del Hobbies paintball. If the last couple of years, the GPL has drawn over 100 teams for game competition, and a fun friendly atmosphere. The GPL features matches in a number of formats with games with 3 on 3, 5 on 5, and 7 on 7 matches. The GPL sponsors professional style paintball matches as well as matches for all players of all experiences levels. Prizes for winning teams include high end markers, air tanks, jerseys, and enough paintball gear to keep you playing for months. Parents, friends, girlfriends, and other volunteers man the refreshments stands and support their players in a fun friendly atmosphere.
The GPL tournament series is the largest in the northeast United States. The husband and wife team of Brian Barno and Cindi Pool founded the GPL franchise in 1997. Many of the GPL's tournament games are played at Del Hobbies Paintball in Pedrickstown, New Jersey. Supplies are available the Del Hobbies Paintball Pro Shop and include paintballs, paintball markers, and team jerseys.
GPL games in five divisions take place on four air ball fields. There are large spaces between fields ideal for friends and families to root on their loved ones. Major tournament competition occurs in seven man teams at the D2/D3 level. Beginner and intermediate players competes in 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 games in d2/d3 play.
Some exciting elements to GPL tournaments include a Redz International Player's party and a special VIP area for featured players and featured paintball teams. At the start of the season, the leagues promoters invested significant resources to build a tent large enough to support 16 teams willing to pay a little extra for VIP status. This VIP tent is conveniently located near the playing fields. Some convenient amenities in the VIP tent include security guards, refreshments, reserved chairs and tables, and private air fill stations. The VIP ten has already received positive reviews.
There were several vendors on hand for paintball guns and gear, including American Paintball Supply. American Paintball Supply support field and store owners, and have an online presence at www.americanpaintballsupply.com. American Paintball Supply supplied Origin paint for the 5 on 5 and 3 on 3 matches as well for refills for the 7 on 7 tournaments.
GPL games are covered by the print and electronic media. Some media outlets on hand for GPL games include Paintball Sports Magazine, Action Pursuit Games, and the Outdoor Channel's, Inside Paintball Show covering the GPL. Veteran paintball teams are featured at these games while up and coming teams have their moment in the sun as well. Media crews were on hand for the Production of DVP movies featuring tournament winners and even some live action shots that were used in the making of the GHTP video game.
GPL paintball features paintball titans such as XSV and excellent prizes for tournament winners. Some excellent prizes have included Planet Eclipse Ruksaks and the 2006 Smart Parts IONS.
