Australian National Tournament Series - AXL
The Australian National Tournament Series was created for those at the other side of the world who wanted to utilize technology more complicated than a boomerang. The Australian National Tournament Series is also called the AXL. The AXL is sponsored by paintball giants such as Sup'Airball, NXe, and MacDev. MacDev is an Australian manufacturer of paintball gear such as markers, air systems, and rebuild kits. The Australian National Tournament Series has grown out of the growing interest in tournament paintball in New Zealand and Australia. In the past 10 years, the sport of paintball has continued to grow in Australia, and teams have continued to improve their skills on fields like Skirmish Down Under the Port Macquarie NSW and Xtreme Leisure Perth. As the interest in the sport has continued to grow, so has the need for championship caliber facilities and games. Out of this desire for competitive speedball games, the AXL was created in the style of NXL in the U.S. The AXL today is experiencing continued growth, and in its fan base, caliber of players entering the tournaments, and sponsorships. The Australian National Tournament Series hosts tournament in the countries best paintball arenas, with high quality level grass and turf surfaces and the best airball bunkers.
Like the NPPL in the PSP, the AXL hosts a select number of major tournaments throughout the year, with a series champion handed to the top ranked team at the end of the season. 4 AXL majors are planned for 2007, the first round will be played at Goffs Harbour (MSW) on March 3-9th, with paintball legend Scott Seceombe directing this tournament. The second event was played on April 28th-29th at Wasp Paintball in Perth. The final two events will take place in July and September to close out the 2007 season. Teams like the Stockholm Ignition will compete for number 1 ranking in the AXL locations such as WASP Paintball and Extreme Skirmish Goffs Harbour.

Like the NXL, the AXL games are formatted for a lot of action, player eliminations, and player movement along the courses. The league rules are created specifically to move the games along quickly and to encourage players to use the four corners of the field. Players who succeed in these tournament games usually have the total paintball skills package: strength, intelligence, speed, and endurance. Some of the AXL teams who have the skills and endurance to fare well in AXL tournament's include the Sydney X-Fighters, Jets, Carnivores, Bladed, and X-Rated. The most successful teams in these events have detailed oriented coaches communicate back and forth with each other very well.
The Australian National Tournament Series is formatted like NXL games, with rectangular arenas and mirror-image bunker arrangements. The AXL has two divisions: Open Extreme and AXL.
