W - Paintball Terms and Definitions
- Wiping - is one of the most common fouls employed in the game, and is also the most despised by the players to play by the rules. Wiping is an illegal act of cheating on a paintball field by wiping away a paint splatter. If caught by another player or referee, the guilty person usually taken off the field, and in some cases asked not to return for the day. Wiping takes away the honesty required for each player to keep the game fun for everyone.
- Wrapping Around - when a player wraps around the side of his bunker to get a view of the playing field or to line up a shot against the opposition. While wrapping around, players try to expose as little of their body as possible to remain as mall target. To become a more effective bunker player, skilled players work on their game by learning how to shoot effectively with your off-hand, it will enable you to wrap around bunkers and give up less of your profile to would be assassins.
- Walking a Trigger - Describes the act of using two (sometimes three) fingers to sequentially pull/tap a marker's trigger, allowing for a higher rate of fire than would be possible by using a single finger to pull the trigger. The rate of fire achieved is around 12-20 balls per second, depending on the players speed. Shooting at a fast rate of fire is also made easier with electronic paintball guns, whose triggers can be compressed with the slightest tap of the finger(s). Some high powered electronic machines include the Impulse from Smart Parts, Punisher Ion from Punisher Paintball, and Shocker from Shocktech.
- WDP - Paintball manufacturer responsible for the series of Angel markers.
- Woodland Camouflage - There are different styles of camouflage that vary by color combinations and patterns. Woodland Camouflage is a style that was first developed by the U.S Army to blend soldiers into a wooded terrain. This style of camouflage uses green, brown, and black odors in various chaotic patterns to mimic forest vegetation.
- Woodsball - Another slang term for recreational outdoor paintball. See also Rec ball. Paintball fields have three main categories of courses: speedball, woodsball, and elaborate villager/forts/ghost towns. Woodsball courses are largely untouched by the hand of man, the terrains remain uneven, and the filed is littered with either natural bunkers, or bunker such as sandbags, log piles, or other obstacles that will blend in with the environment. Woodsball even has their own teams and leagues to bring more attention to their beloved sport. In the competitive circuit, the Old School Challenge Series enthusiastic teams battle it out in Woodsball environments using only stockguns in a battle of tactics rather than who can shoot the fastest.
- Wrench, Allen - An Allen Wrench is a hexagonal tool which comes in various sizes and is used to turn screw fasteners such as hex or button head screws. They are also used to turn anything that has a hexagonal hole. In paintball they are used to adjust the paintball gun's velocity as well as disassemble it.
- Walk-on - A recreational player who brings their own equipment to a field.
- Walking (the field) - Before playing, walking from bunker to bunker to devise a good strategy for playing the field. It helps you to identify the key bunkers for their shooting angles and high traffic lanes between bunkers.
