P - Paintball Terms & Definitions
- Paintball - The term paintball can refer to the sport itself or to the projectiles that is fired when its signature weapon, the paintball gun, fires. A paintball is a round, lightweight capsule with a water based dye. It is designed to be shot out of a marker, propelled by a compressed gas. A paintball should burst on impact, leaving a visible paint splatter on its target. The liquid fill and outer shell of a paintball are both non-toxic and more similar in composition to gummy bears than they are to the type of paint that is used on cars or houses. Balls come in three calibers (sizes) .50, .62, and .68. A 1.00 caliber paintball would be exactly 1 inch in diameter. Nearly all paintballs used in conventional markers are .68 caliber. .68 caliber paintballs are more readily available and offer better range, accuracy, and "breakability", perhaps because of its larger size and heavier weight. Also, the popular game of tag used with paintballs. Some popular brands of paintballs include RPS Marballizer Paintballs and TC Paintballs Drakula Attack Paintballs.
- Paint Check - Time called by a referee or player to check for "splat" marks. A Paint Check may only e invoked by a referee. If a player misuses the paint-check rule, he may be called for a one-for-one penalty or he may be removed from the game.
- Pattern - The distribution of paintballs fired from a paintball marker.
- Paintball Grenade - This is probably the second most common "weapon" used in paintball games. While the most common weapon used is the marker that fires paintball projectiles, the paintball grenade is thrown near opposing players and sprays a cloud of paint in all directions, obstructing his view of the field or getting paint on his uniform. The paint grenade is much more common in Woodsball games than Speedball matches.
- Paintball Mine - A device developed for scenario paintball. Operating much like a real mine, these devices are triggered when a player either trips a wire or steps on a trigger mechanism in order to spray paint up at their person.

- Painting - Painting is short for "Going Paintballing" or going to play paintball.
- Pairing - When two players on the same team are designated as partners and are responsible for each other. This pair may have a set of objectives or duties and are mostly effective during woodsball where players can move around without getting detected. Often, a newbie and a skilled veteran will be paired so that newbie can learn the basics during play.
- Paintball WMD - Much like a paintball mine, this device is created on a much large scale. The WMD, or a weapon of mass destruction, is capable of spraying paint in a 20-foot radius if any of the three methods of release are tripped.
- Pants - This is a slang term that was first coined by Ben Allen. Pants was meant to replace Agg, meaning "awesome" or "original" or "awesome".
- Pack - A belt/harness system for carrying Pods of paint so that a player may reload their hopper/feeder on the field during the game.
- Porting - Holes that are symmetrically drilled into a barrel to make the marker quieter.
