I - Paintball Terms & Definitions
- I.D. - Abbreviation for inner diameter.
- Inline Configuration - Refers to the manner in which the bolt and hammer of a paintgun are positioned in relation to each other. An in-line configuration indicates that the bolt and hammer are in line with each other one behind the other.
- Insert (1) - An insert is usually the most versatile paintball player on the field. Like a mid field player, an insert is able to work his way around the field, backing up front players, and taking orders from back players. Insert players take directions of the other players in front of them and in back of them on where to move, where opposing players are, and who to concentrate fire on. Insert players are supposed to be versatile since they will cover a lot of ground on the field, backing up the front players, as well as substituting for front and back players who have been eliminated. The Insert player is a fill-in man. When the games starts, an insert takes a place behind the attackers and in front of the back players. Insert players may move into point man or back man positions on an as needed basis, either to take up a position of an eliminated teammate, or to back up another player. In any game an insert may start as a "back player", move into his middle position, and then jump in front of the top runner to become the point man. The insert is usually the communication center of the team, relaying codes from the back player to the point men and vice versa.
- Insert (2) - A bore-sizing piece of aluminum or stainless steel in the shape of a tube that is inserted into a barrel to match the inner bore size of the paintball used.
- IPPA - International Paintball Players Association. IPPA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the growth and advancement of paintball. It was founded in 1987 as an attempt to educate the general public about the sport. The establishment of the IPPA was an important milestone in the paintball industry. Other significant milestones the opening of the first indoor playing field by Caleb Strong in 1988 and the first paintball publication in 1983 titled "The Official Survival Game Manual." Recent paintball publications include the Gun-fu: The Martial Art of Paintball by Terry Adams and Paintball legend Logbook, by several authors.
- Inquisition (Paintball Game) - Inquisition is a paintball game with a number of interesting wrinkles. Inquisition is a game where one team plays with no limits on their firepower, while the other team plays with pump guns or without hoppers. In most paintball games with firepower difference, the team with the rapid fire guns are greatly outnumbered. Though in the game Inquisition, both teams are of equal size. The team with the most players at the end of the game wins. Before the start of the game, a card is taken out of a deck of cards for each player on the Rebellion team. Out of the deck, half the cards are to be red and half to be black. The other team is called the Inquisition, and they can recruit eliminated Rebellion players onto their team by correctly guessing what color card they have in their pocket.
