Dead Man
When a paintball player hears the term Dead Man in a game, it is referring to a player that is out, or eliminated from the game. A paintball player is a dead man when he has been hit directly by a paintball that has burst and left a mark of paint fill on him. Players may also take on paint splatter from indirect hits with the ground, and off trees, inflatable bunkers or walls. In most paintball games, a dead man is expected to leave the field, and not do anything to disrupt a game as he is leaving. When a player has been hit and eliminated, he is expected to head directly to a dead box, or other specified area that is away from game action. A dead box is a cordoned off area where eliminated players go while a game is still in progress. In major tournaments, players must remain in the dead box until the game is over. The dead box is also known as player purgatory.
There are some games where the players are not required to leave the field and go to the dead box. In the game Down But Not Out, a player that is hit either stands like a flag pole, or kneels down, and signals to both sides that he is the one that has been eliminated. If the player is hit again before a teammate comes to rescue him, he is permanently eliminated from the game. If a teammate gets to him first and taps him on the top of the head, then he is tagged back into game action. Players in games like this try to make opponents a dead man using markers like the AT85 from ATS. ATS, also known as Get Real Paintball, are committed to improving the game of paintball, and they have introduced a number of products to the game. Some of the latest ATS products to hit the market include the Mil Sim guns including the AT-85, AT-16, AT-4, and AT10. Thee markers from the AT series are all lightweight, weighing an average of 4.2 pounds. These guns fire at over 300 feel per second, and fire up to 12 balls per second. The AT marker barrels are constructed with high grade aluminum, with the AT-16 having the longest barrel at nearly 24#. All AT marker bodies are made out of a stainless steel interior, and a Ceramic Polymer Exterior. When used in scenario and recreational games, the AT85 has been know to make many players a dead man.

Rules of player elimination apply to almost any licensed paintball field, including Tactical Paintball, in Harwood, Texas. Tactical Paintball is one of the largest complexes in the state of Texas for recreational play. Tactical Paintball is a dynamic field, frequently coming up with new event ideas for games you won't plant anywhere else. Some 2007 events include the Battle for Kre Sanh, a night paintball event titled as Tears of the Sun, the SPOL Season Opener, and the March 3rd Hunt for Bin Laden. Tactical Paintball field is well known in the scenario community, and players have come from all over the continental United States to participate in games like Starship Troopers: Return to Big K.
