Hopperball
Hopperball is a paintball game where players are able to take no more than 200 paintballs with them onto the field, either in their loader or in their hopper and pods. The name hopperball basically comes from the number of paintballs one hopper of paint can hold. A normal marker hopper usually holds a maximum capacity of 200 paintballs. Hopperball has become more and more popular at Rec games and even tournaments. Though there has always been a thirst for paintball games that shoot faster and futher, there have always been players who have felt some of the magic taken out of the games that just feature mad shooting in all directions. Paintball has always been a game of tactics and strategy, and sometimes strategy and thinking get lost underneath all that bunkering and lane shooting. With hopperball, players are forced to be more economical with their ammo, and many have found these games to be more enjoyable. Some markers that would work well with these types of games would include the JT Proteus, Invert Mini, and Indian Creek Designs from Promaster.
Hopperball teaches players to focus on accuracy rather than trying to overwhelm your opponents with missiles. There are endless paintball magazines and online sites with marker guides telling how many paintballs a marker can shoot per second. But what guides are there to compare player skills while factoring out the technology they are using. Hopperball is a near-perfect way to level the playing field. It is also a great way of saving money for the players who are strapped for cash. If you have one rich player who can shoot at will while a more financially challenged player is forced to conserve his ammo, then you have one player with an unfair advantage. Hopper takes this unfair advantage away, as players are forced to compete with the same supply of paintballs. Players in the game hopper usually buy a loader that holds the maximum 200 paintballs, so that they won't have to waste time reloading. Some great hoppers on the market include the Empire Reloader B, Empire B2, the Odyssey Halo front man LED TSA, Kingman Fasta LCD, Viewloader Tripod 190, and the Ricochet Apache LCD.

The Ricochet Apache LCD has an LCD display, magnetic lid closure, low battery indicator, manuel drive override, variable speeds, and force feeds. With this force feed technology, you will be able to rapid fire when you have to. Though hopperball is usually a popular recreational paintball game, it has even been featured at major competitive tournaments. At the Pan am circuit, the 5 player games are played in Hopperball format. Players in the Pan Am circuit are allowed 200 paintballs to play with each game. At most Pan am circuit events, players can get paint at the tournament or bring their own. The Pan Am circuit is closely associated with the Great western series (GWS). Players who are used to emptying out a case of paint must play a whole different style at these games. It is an important strategy to conserve your paint until the end of the game. A player with an empty hopper is a sitting duck.
