Annihilator - Paintball Games
While most versions of the capture the flag games are between two teams that face off on opposite ends of the field, in annihilator, there are multiple 5 man teams. In the paintball game annihilator, the game is truly a game of annihilation, where each player shoots at all the other players on the field (with the exception of their own teammates) until everyone else is eliminated, or when time runs outs. Annihilator games usually last between 30 minutes up to one hour. These games are longer than most other games because the venues for these fields are so large, and there is so much ground to cover. In annihilator games each team begins the game far enough away from their nearest opponents so that they can't see each other. Because of this spacing aspect, the fields for theses games are very large, and the longer time duration accounts for this fact.
The setup for annihilator is 5 man teams. The maximum limit is four teams for every acre of playing area. Each team begins out of sight and shooting range from the other competing teams. The format of the game is to eliminate all players from all the opposing teams, or the team that has the most points at the end of the game. A point is scored for each player an individual eliminates on the opposing team. A team with no surviving members left will be awarded no points. A team must remain at their starting station until the start of the game signal. The objective of the game is to have at least one member and be the team with the highest score at the end of the game.
The game of Annihilator and other paintball games like duel and capture the flag are popular on paintball fields like Genesis Paintball in El Paso, Texas and CJ's Paintball in Cornelius, North Carolina. Paintball games like Annihilator are unique and have been successful in capturing the minds of up and coming players who will be one day managing and be bringing innovations to the sport of paintball. If you have been playing the same games over and over again and are looking for some new game formats to make things more interesting, here are some other options.
The Duel. while attack and defend games, recon, blackjack and capture the flag are team events, the duel is a one on one contest featuring one pistol, one weapon, and one shot. The duel is inspired by the Clint Eastwood type tough guy movies set in the Wild West. In this romantic old west, two tough cowboys would duel when they would determine that their differences could not be settled peacefully, and the town was not big enough for the two of them. To resolved their differences once and for all, they would duel, and square off against one another in a one shot shootout. The dueler who survived the duel was the winner.

In a paintball duel, the game is also designed to have one winner and one loser. Only in a paintball duel, the loser is sprayed with paint, not a deadly round. The weapon of the dueler is a paintball pistol with each pistol packing just one paintball. The duel is between two men, with one warden protecting the laws of the game. The duel starts with two players standing back to back. Then the warden counts from zero to ten, with each player going one pace in the opposite direction with each pace. At the count of ten, each player turns and fires their only paintball. The duel is a much quicker game than Annihilator.
