Sole Survivor | Paintball Game Variations
Sole Survivor is a variation on the total elimination theme, but with a couple of unique twists. The objective of the game is to be the last player on the field holding the flag, or the last player on the game who had the flag before there was only one player left standing. There are no teams in the game Sole Survivor, the game usually has between 10-30 people and each individual is playing for himself. This is a game of single elimination, and you are out when you are hit. The Sole Survivor in this game is the last player standing at the end of the game. What is very unique about this game is that the Sole Survivor may not be the player that actually wins the game. If the final surviving player does not have the flag at the end of the game, the game victory will go to the last player holding the flag. Another unique element to the game are the number of weapons available for the players to use. Players can carry with them any type of paintball gun of their choosing with the addition of other novelty weapons such as paint grenades and paintball pistols.
In most versions of the game Sole Survivor, there is only one flag on the field, and the flag is placed out of plain view so that the player will have to look for it. The players start out, looking for the flag with a ceasefire until the flag is found. The first person to locate the flag picks it up and screams "Flag!" or blows a whistle. Then everyone is in harms way, especially the flag holder, who has the item everyone else wants. All players are under rules of single eliminations, including the flag holder. If the flag holder gets eliminated, he must throw down the flag near where he was hit and leave the game. The games goes on until there is only one player left standing or until the time on the game clock expires. If the eliminations continue until the only player left standing is the flag holder, then the flag holder wins the game automatically. If the last player does not have the flag, he has 2 minutes to find it and pick it up. If he can't locate the flag within 2 minutes, then the winner of the game is the last player holding the flag.

Sole Survivor is one of many paintball games where a player or team can win the game by eliminating a number of other players. Other elimination format games include Slayer. Slayer is a game where two evenly sized teams mark each other until there is only one team still left in play. Other games like Siege are similar to sole survivor in that it could involve either a total elimination or a flag capture. In the paintball game Siege, two teams of equal strength pace off from two sides of a base, fort, or tower. The "defenders" try to keep the other team out of the base, and the "attackers" must breach the defense and capture the flag inside the defenders base. Each team can also win the game by eliminating all of the members of the opposing team.
