Penalty Box - Paintball Game Variations
In most paintball game variations, a player who has been tagged out must take the most direct path towards the exit of the field and may not return. In competitive tournament speedball games, teams are awarded points for player eliminations and flag hands. In competitive speedball action, player eliminations are single elimination. In other versions of the game, players can re-enter the game by tagging up at a location near their starting point, or they may have to stand in the place they were hit until a certain period has passed or another teammate comes along to tag him in. Some paintball game variations have a multiple elimination format out of necessity, either because of the time length of the matches or because of the size of the fields. In Big Game events the matches are very long in time duration and the fields can be several football fields long. It would not be feasible to send players a mile back to the starting point or have them wait hours before the next game objective is to begin. So in Big Games or large scenario games, players must usually barrel plug their weapon once hit and wait for a certain period of time until he hears the next game whistle. Game whistles usually sound every half hour or hour. When the whistle sounds, all tagged players may rejoin their squad in game action. Some recent Big Game events include Tippman's Treasure at Splatter Park Paintball Games, and Summer Big Game at ExtremePaintball.com.
Penalty Box is one unique paintball game variation to multiple life games. In the game Penalty Box, a player must go back to a designated starting point once he has been eliminated or tagged. Once he goes back to his starting location, he tags up to ready himself to get back into the game. In games such as Tag Up and Reincarnation, the player can re-enter the game right away. But in the game Penalty Box, the player must wait from one to five minutes before going back into the game. The penalty box format may be an additional rule to other paintball games, or it may be a format of big games or scenario games. Some paintball fields that may play matches with this penalty box format include Outback Kayak Paintball Field in North Woodstock New Hampshire, and Liberty Paintball LLC in Florence South Carolina.
