Hostage Rescue - Paintball Game Variations
Hostage Rescue is a popular paintball game and it is a match that is unique in a number of ways. In paintball games like reinforcements both sides are exactly the same, with each team trying to capture the other team's flag. In Hostage Rescue, you have two different types of teams with each having their own distinct objectives for winning the game. IN this game, you have the rescuers on one side, and the terrorists on the other side. The terrorists have the objective of stopping the rescuers from bringing the hostage to sanctuary. The rescuers objective is to bring the hostage to sanctuary.
The Game Rules/Procedures. Hostage Rescue is a 30 minute game with two teams, one team the rescuers, and the other team the terrorists. The terrorists pick one Rescuer to act as the hostage. Two hostage holding areas are designated. The location of one of the hostage holding areas is disclosed to the rescuers. Terrorists do not know which hostage holding areas the hostage is enclosed in. The main objective of the game is for the rescuers to take the hostage from the holding area to a place know as sanctuary. The location of the sanctuary area is known to the rescuers and the terrorists. If the rescuers are successful in getting the hostage to the sanctuary, the rescuers win the game. The hostage must be provided safe passage to the sanctuary without getting marked. If the hostage is eliminated en route to the sanctuary, the game is over, and the hostages win the game.

Terrorists are given a five minute head start to take the hostage to one of the hostage holding areas. Both the terrorists and hostages know that they are ready for action when they hear the start of the game signal. Once the terrorists have transferred the hostage to the holding areas, they can only defend this location, they can't take him out of the holding area. The hostage cannot attempt to escape, he cannot leave the holding area until one of the rescuers springs him out of there. If the hostage is hit while being saved by the rescuers, the game is over, the hostages win the match. The hostage must have at least one rescuer when he reaches sanctuary for the rescuers to win. If all of the rescuers are eliminated while escorting the hostage towards sanctuary, he stops and stays where his was when he last rescuer was gunned down. He must wait for another rescuer to come along and continue the journey towards safe haven. The rescuer can call out to another rescuer if he wants to. Any player that is eliminated must leave the field, general rules of elimination apply in this game.
Hostage Rescue and other challenging paintball games have been played on fields like City Splatter Zone in Bakersfield, California, and Wild Bill's Paintball Emporium in Lawrenceville, Georgia. There are other games like Hostage Rescue that feature two opposing teams with two different objectives surrounding the same object. One such game like this would be Bunny Hunt. IN Bunny Hunt, there is one Bunny, placed by one player, and the hunters making up all the other palyers. The objective for the bunny is to survive for the full 20 minutes without getting hit, while the objective for the hunters is to eliminate the bunny. In Bunny Hunt and Hostage Rescue, the game is over when the key target is hit, the bunny in one game, and the hostage in the other. In both games, the key target is given a number of advantages that give it a chance to survive. In Bunny Hunt, the bunny is given a shield to block paintballs. In Hostage Rescue, the Hostage is provided cover by on or more rescuers.
