Most paintball games feature two identical teams of equal strength with two identical game objectives. For instance, most game variations will feature two evenly numbered teams with an objective such as capturing another team's flag stations. Other games feature teams that have different objectives. A lot of these games have the familiar attack and defend theme, where one team may try to transport a player or apparatus to a certain location, and the other team tries to stop them. Other defend and attack themed games feature some kind of building or fort that the defending players must keep the attackers out of. Fox and Hounds paintball games is one example other games where the teams have two entirely different objectives. The Foxes must try to survive from given period of time while the Hounds must try to eliminate all of the Foxes before time expires. Fox and Hounds is an elimination format game where one team can win by eliminating all of the other players on the other team.
In the paintball game Fox & Hounds, players are divided into two groups of uneven distribution. One small group are assembled as the Foxes, and one much larger group are designated the Hounds. The Foxes enter the field first and are given enough of a head start to find hiding places to conceal themselves. After a certain amount of time has elapsed, the Hounds are allowed to enter the field and start searching for the Foxes. Foxes and Hounds paintball games usually last between 20-30 minutes. For the Hounds to win the game, they must eliminate all of the Foxes before the time expires. For the Foxes to win the game, they must survive until the end of the game with at least one of their players still standing. Other paintball games include fugitive, Civil War, D-Day, Reaper, Recon, Freeze Tag, Hot Potato, and Black Knight. Other paintball games like Foxes and Hounds feature two teams of uneven strength. Games with formats like these usually have total elimination themes or will give the team with fewer players some kind of technological advantage to improve the odds of them surviving. For instance, in the game Foxes and Hounds, the Foxes are given ample time to find a good hiding spots. This gives them the opportunity to evade the opposition for a certain period of time. In other games, the team of lesser strength are allowed to use semi-automatic markers while the players on the bigger team are only permitted to use stockguns.
