Defend and Attack Games | Paintball Game Variations
Attack and Defend games include any game where one team is confined to a limited defensive area and the other team must accomplish an offensive objective within that area. These games are unique for a couple of reasons. The first is the act of one team being confined to a limited defensive area. This contrasts noticeably from games like capture the flag, where anyone could be at any location on the field at any given time. Another unique aspect to Attack & Defend Games are the very different roles of the two sides. On one side you have the defensive team, holding up some type of fort on fortification. The defensive team's objective is to hold their ground and prevent an enemy advance. The team with the offensive objective must break through this fortification and take control of some object or the players inside. These two clearly different objectives contrast with games like Center Flag. In center flag, you have both teams with the same objective, to capture the flag in the middle and bring it back to the team's starting point.
One of the most popular venue for Attack-And-Defend Games is called Attack the Fort. Attack the Fort is a very popular game where the defensive starts the game in a fortified structure, and on opposing team must break into the fort. The Fort is usually a large wooden structure or large bunkers available at some local paintball fields. Attack the fort is fun, simple, and has games that usually last 10 minutes. One team begins the game inside the bunker, while the other team start out far enough away from the fort so that roamers have a chance to disperse. One player on each attacking team is given a flag tied to a nerf ball. The objective is to break through the fort defensive and get it to the tower inside the fort. The defensive team does all it can to prevent this from happening.

If you are a little apprehensive about getting hit by a paintball at such a close range, maybe this is not the game for you. Attack the Fort features a short game with some close contact and lots of firing, especially when the offense and defense go head to head inside the fort.
In Attack the Fort and other similar Attack & Defend Games, the flag carrier may hand off to another teammate at any time. If the flag carrier gets shot down, then they may remain in the area as a neutral player until they can hand the flag off. The eliminated flag carrier can signal being out by standing still and holding his gun over his head. This is an ideal maneuver over just putting the flag down and leaving the game. It makes it easier for the attacking team to know where the flag is.
With the exception of the Roamers, all members of the defending team must remain inside the fort. Roamers must start the game inside the fort, but may roam at will after that. Roamers may come to and from the fort to report on movements of the enemy, and to launch counter attacks when necessary. Defensive players involved in Attack the Fort/contests must leave the game when eliminated.
Other Attack and Defend Games include the Bunny Game. In the Bunny Game, the "bunny" is placed in plain view of both teams, and the defense must try to prevent the offense from shooting the bunny in its goggles.
