Cutthroat | Paintball Game Variations
Cutthroat is one of several paintball games where several teams are on the field at the same time, competing against one another. This is also a multiple game event that usually lasts for an entire day, and points are cumed for a day by adding them together at the end of the day. The paintball game cutthroat features three or more teams of equal strength who try to score as many possible points as they can by the end of the day. Two teams of equal strength means that each team has the same number of players. Cutthroat is a multiple team game, and a multiple flag game. Each team begins a game at a different section of the game, next to a flag station that they are instructed to defend. Each team tries to score as many points as they can in each game that they play. A team can score points in one of two ways. First, they receive one point for each player that they eliminate from any other team. Second, teams earn additional points for each flag they pull at another team's flag station. The points are added up at the end of the game, and the points from each game are added together at the end of the day. The objective of the paintball game cutthroat is to be the team that has the most points at the end of the day.
Cutthroat is often a popular game variation on paintball fields like Mason Paintball in Mason Ohio, and Paint Crusades in Myersdale Pennsylvania. Because this game gets so many teams involved and features a point system and multiple games, it is a popular tournament event. Most tournament style events though feature a bracket style tournament setup with two team games. Some popular leagues for tournament events include the Collegiate Paintball League, International Amateur Open, and the PanAm Circuit. Like PSP and NPPL tournament games, team sizes are small, usually between 3 and 7 players. Prizes and trophies for Cutthroat tournament events are usually given to the teams with the top three point totals at the end of the day.

Before the start of the first game, players are separated into several teams of equal strength, with each team member getting a number. For example, 5 players on Team 1 will be numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and the players on team 2 will be numbered 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. This makes it easier to keep track of points to tally up at the end of the game. This makes it easier to keep track of points to tally up at the end of the game. A player can get only one point for hitting a player, he will not score multiple points for hitting the same player multiple times. Each team starts the game near a flag station that they are responsible for guarding if they wish to do so. In some Cutthroat game variations, additional flags are placed at other flag stations. Teams rotate starting positions by jumping two or three spaces each game. This keeps only one team from having an unfair advantage due to one team always having an easy team to pick on next to them to start the game.
