X Ball Game Format
X Ball games are the same events as NXL games or National X Ball League games. The NXL is one of a number of growing paintball leagues around the world, including the Argentine Paintball Association and the Canadian XBall League. The Canadian X Ball League is also called the CXL. The X Ball league was one of the first paintball leagues to play a regular season with a scheduled playoffs and championship round at the end of the season. The first X Ball Championship was in 2002 in Orlando, Florida. The X Ball League was the first league that created a format that would be geared for a national audience and nationally televised games. Progress is currently being made for TV contracts.
When the X Ball League was formed, it was divided into two divisions, east and west. The east division is made up of the Baltimore Trauma, Miami Effect, New York Xtreme and Philadelphia Americans. The Western Division is comprised of the Chicago Aftershock, Detroit Thunder, Los Angeles Ironmen, and the Oakland Assassins.

The X Ball game format supports fast moving games while taking many of the elements that make other sports popular and combining them with the game of paintball. X Ball Game Format. X Ball matches are played in 4 minute quarters like football and basketball. Multiple games are played in each quarter of the game. Each game ends when one team completes a flag hang. Each quarter is a ten minute period. Every flag-hang marks the end of the game, the beginning of a three minute pit stop, and then a new game. At the end of the quarter, the game is stopped, and then a new game begins at the start of the next quarter. The same two teams face each other, through all four quarters, until the end of the game. The X Ball Game Format are five man teams, meaning that there are no more than five men allowed on the field at the start of the game. Though the format calls for 5 man teams, the squads can include more than five players, and players can be substituted between games. In the event of an injury time can be called to substitute between games. Teams are allowed one two-minute time-out each game.
Teams can carry up to 10 players for substitutions between games. After every flag hang, teams return to the coach's area for a pit stop. During the pit stop, the coach may select from any of his dressed players to send in to the next game. The coach may substitute players for any number of reasons, including fatigue, injury, or based on who the other coach is sending in. The coach may decide to send in players that will match up well with the athletes on the other team. Teams are allowed one two-minute time-out each game. The team coach may point or shout out directions and strategy changes to players during the game.
